Vanilla is a well known scent, from perfumes to food to candles it's EVERYWHERE. Did you know it also has health benefits?

Before you find yourself in the baking isle we aren't talking about Vanilla essence.

Vanilla Planiforea is scientifically known to have sedative properties. It calms the mind and body reducing anxiety, It can also lift your mood and enhance your sleep just by smelling it.

Studies have also shown Vanilla to help premature infants with sleep apnea.

The ideal Vanilla to use would be Vanilla Oleoresin / "essential oil" which contains higher amounts of Vanillin. If this is not available Vanilla extract can be of some use but it won't be as effective as the Oleoresin. Vanilla is also safe to use during pregnancy.

ALWAYS DILUTE YOUR ESSENTIAL OILS BEFORE PLACING THEM ON YOUR SKIN.

PLEASE NOTE: Most vanilla flavours and essence are synthetic forms of Vanilla and may not produce the desired result when used for aromatherapy.

Not everyone loves Lavender but that's okay, Mother Nature has blessed us with options.

Salvia sclarea or Clary Sage is also a calming scent and it can be used in diffusers to induce relaxation just like Lavender.

AVOID this oil if you are pregnant, sage is known to stimulate contractions.

Lavender has a variety of scents. Below are the three common scents you can find.

Lavandula Angustofila ( True Lavender/ English Lavender)

Lavandula Latifolia ( Spike Lavender / Portuguese Lavender)

Lavandula x intermedia ( Lavandin)

We suggest using L.angustofolia when choosing a lavender oil for your diffuser. It contains less camphor and it is known as the more therapeutic/ calming species. Lavender is also considered safe to use during pregnancy.
