Back pain and kidney pain can feel similar, but there are some key differences:

1. Location

⭕️ Back pain (muscle/spine):

✔️Usually in the lower back (lumbar area), can be central or slightly off to one side.

🔶 Kidney pain:

✔️Higher up—just below the ribs, on either side of the spine (called the “flank”).

2. Type of pain

⭕️ Back pain:

▪️Aching, stiffness, or sharp pain that changes with movement (bending, twisting, lifting).

🔶 Kidney pain:

▪️Deep, constant ache or sharp pain that doesn’t change much with movement. Can come in waves if it’s a kidney stone.

3. Radiation (where it spreads)

⭕️ Back pain:

▪️May spread to the buttocks or legs (like sciatica).

🔶 Kidney pain:

▪️May move toward the abdomen, groin, or inner thigh (especially with stones).

4. Other symptoms

⭕️ Back pain:

▪️Usually no other symptoms besides muscle stiffness or limited movement.

🔶 Kidney pain:

▪️Often comes with:

✔️Fever or chills (infection)

✔️Nausea/vomiting

✔️Painful urination

✔️Blood in urine

✔️Frequent urge to urinate

5. What makes it worse

⭕️ Back pain:

▪️Movement, lifting, certain positions.

🔶 Kidney pain:

▪️Not much change with movement; may worsen over time or come in severe waves (stones).

⚠️ When to seek help

‼️Get checked urgently if you have:

🔸Severe pain in the side/back that won’t go away

🔸Fever + back/flank pain

🔸Blood in urine

🔸Nausea/vomiting with pain
