NOT EVERY SMILE TELLS THE WHOLE STORY. 💜

One of my favorite calypsos this Crop Over season was WUH PEOPLE GINE THROUGH by CLASSIC.

Although he didn't make it to the finals, the message of his song has stayed with me ever since I first heard it.

One part in particular, says:
"Don't be so quick to pass judgement... because you don't know... wuh people gine through."

Every day we cross paths with people who are smiling on the outside while quietly falling apart on the inside. Some are carrying grief. Some are battling illness. Some are worrying about their children, their marriage, their finances, or simply trying to make it through another day.

Before we criticize...
Before we assume...
Before we cast the first stone...

Let's choose kindness.

Because we never really know what someone else is carrying.

There was a time when a child's education was seen as a partnership.

Parents respected teachers.
Teachers cared deeply about their students.
And when challenges came, adults sat down together to find solutions... because everyone understood the same thing:

THE CHILD CAME FIRST.

Today, the world has changed in many ways... but one thing has not changed:

Children are still watching.

They are watching how we speak.
How we disagree.
How we handle frustration.
How we treat the people that are trying to help us grow.

May we never forget the lessons children learn outside the classroom are just as powerful as the ones taught inside it.

💜 SOME PEOPLE SPEND A LIFETIME QUIETLY MAKING BARBADOS A BETTER PLACE... AND NEVER EXPECT TO BE THANKED FOR IT.

Yesterday, many people saw a gentleman proudly enjoying Crop Over.

I saw my friend, Wayne "Norville" Norville.

Like so many Barbadians, I've had the privilege of knowing Norville for most of my life. As a young girl, I remember him coming to our home whenever one of our beloved family pets needed care. My dad trusted him completely, and over the years he became much more than the person who cared for our animals—he became a familiar face, a family friend, and someone we always knew to be kind, caring and dependable.

For decades, Norville devoted his life to the welfare of animals through his work at the Barbados RSPCA. He answered countless calls for help, cared for animals that had no voice, educated pet owners, and quietly made Barbados a better place through his compassion and dedication.

But that's only one side of the man.

Many Barbadians also know Norville from karaoke nights across the island. Hand him a microphone and he'll have a room smiling in no time. Whether he's pouring his heart into Deniece Williams' Silly or getting everyone moving to Baron's Sweet Soca Man, he sings with the same warmth and sincerity that he lives with. It's just another gift he shares so generously with others.

SOME PEOPLE ARE REMEMBERED FOR WHAT THEY OWNED. OTHERS ARE REMEMBERED FOR HOW THEY MADE PEOPLE FEEL. NORVILLE IS ONE OF THE LATTER.

Yesterday, seeing him dressed so proudly for Crop Over, smiling as always, reminded me of something...

The richest lives are not measured by wealth or fame. They're measured by the kindness we leave behind and the joy we bring to others.

Too often, we wait until people are gone before we tell them how much they meant to us.

At Purple Peace Garden, I believe in giving people their flowers while they are still here to receive them.

So today, these flowers are for you, Norville.

Thank you for your years of service.
Thank you for your friendship.
Thank you for your music.
Thank you for your kindness.
And thank you for reminding us that a life spent serving others is a life well lived.

May God continue to bless you with good health, happiness, and many more songs to sing.

I've got to share this one with you early 😁
So... yesterday Kadooment/Crop Over festival for my friends who may not be familiar... I am on the Mighty Grynner Highway, formerly the Spring Garden Highway, here in Barbados.

As I have been telling my husband, I hope I run into Adrian 'AC' Clarke to personally congratulate him. So, friends, I'm sitting there and suddenly someone shouts out AC and points at a truck which had stopped right in front of us...

Friends! If you see how I ran to that truck, I told a guy standing on it, please I just want to tell AC personally "Congratulations"... the guy started laughing, he said "No No, you talking about Adrian AC Clarke the winning calypsonian. No no, what the people meant is that this is the Air Conditioned truck"🤣🤣🤣 There's an air conditioned sectioned on the truck where masqueraders can come and cool down.

Lord have mercy!!! 🫠

I crawl back over to my seat and could only laugh at myself...

BUT THEN... SUDDENLY FRIENDS...
I heard my husband saying... Good job man... you deserve the win... it's the best song Ever... and when I look up... I thought I was imagining it.. right in front of me stood...

THE CROWN MAY HAVE BEEN AWARDED LAST NIGHT... BUT AC'S TALENT WON MY ADMIRATION FOR MANY YEARS NOW.

Watching him lift the trophy last night felt like seeing years of dedication, creativity and consistency rewarded.
