๐ŸŒŸTip of the Week ๐ŸŒŸ

Pause before you react.

When emotions run high, it's easy to respond in the heat of the moment. Instead, give yourself permission to pause. Taking a few slow breaths can help calm your mind, regulate your emotions, and allow you to respond with intention rather than impulse.

๐ŸŒฟ Try this simple breathing exercise:
โœจ Inhale through your nose for 4 seconds
โœจ Hold your breath for 4 seconds
โœจ Exhale slowly through your mouth for 6 seconds
โœจ Repeat 3โ€“5 times

Sometimes, a few mindful breaths are all it takes to create space between your emotions and your response.

Barbados is a small community, and during Crop Over, I usually see several clients at parties, events, and other public spaces. ๐ŸŽ‰

As a therapist, protecting confidentiality remains my responsibility, even outside the therapy room.

Here are three ways I usually handle these situations:

1๏ธโƒฃ I don't acknowledge a client unless they acknowledge me first.

2๏ธโƒฃ If a client greets me, I respond warmly but avoid mentioning how we know each other or discussing our therapeutic relationship.

3๏ธโƒฃ I discourage conversations about therapy or personal matters in public, where privacy can't be guaranteed.

I'm not trying to be unfriendly. I'm protecting clientsโ€™ privacy and allowing them to decide whether, and how, they want to acknowledge me. ๐Ÿ”

And yes, if you see me wukking up at a fete, please remember: therapists have a waistline too. ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ’ƒ๐Ÿพ

So, if your therapist seems to pass you at a Crop Over event without saying hello, they may simply be following good professional practice and ethics.

In our latest blog post, we explore what trauma is, how it can show up in our lives, and why understanding its roots is an important first step toward healing and change especially in the Caribbean.

โœจ Awareness makes the invisible visible.
โœจ Understanding creates space for compassion.
โœจ Healing begins when we acknowledge what we have carried.
