Emergency বাংলাদেশের সবচেয়ে অবহেলিত জায়গা। হাসপাতাল কর্তৃপক্ষের কাছে এবং ডাক্তারদের কাছেও। অধিকাংশ ডাক্তারদের কাছেই Emergency department নাক সিটকানোর বিষয় এবং তথাকথিত ভাল posting পাওয়ার আগে পর্যন্ত কোন রকমে পড়ে থাকার জায়গা। Emergency department যে একটা specialised services, এখনকার কাজের ধরন আলাদা, এখানে কাজ করতেও যে বিশেষ ট্রেনিং লাগে তা আমাদের দেশের অনেক ডাক্তারই বোঝেন না। হাসপাতালের কর্তৃপক্ষও এ বিষয়ে অত্যন্ত উদাসীন। তাই এদেশের হাসপাতাল গুলিতে নাম মাত্র Emergency Room থাকে, Emergency department থাকে না। আর এ emergency room এর untrained ডাক্তার বা নার্স কেবলমাত্র ভর্তির প্রক্রিয়া কিংবা ফোন অপারেটর এর কাজ করেন মাত্র।
জীবনের নিরাপত্তার স্বার্থেই এ ভয়াবহ অবস্থা থেকে উত্তরণ জরুরী। কার্যকর One Stop Emergency Department অত্যাবশ্যক।
