Raysa, 7 year 6 months old patient diagnosed with a small Atrial Septal Defect (ASD). Interestingly, both her father and sister also had a history of ASD.

After clinical evaluation, she is currently doing well and does not require any medication at this time. She will continue with regular follow-up as advised by her physician.

CSI is one of the top ranking educational platform in the field of paediatric cardiac intervention and structural interventions.

Since 2010, I am attending the annual conference whenever possible.

For last few years I am working as Advisor of the CSI AP. I was dreaming for a Bangladesh Session for long but I was not asking as there was only few professionals available in the country and availability of interesting works were minimum.

On 2025 CSI AP, I talked to organisers and planned for Bangladesh Session.

I enrolled name of "paediatric cardiac society of Bangladesh PCSB " to represent Bangladesh in that Session.

I came back to Bangladesh and started working for the Session.

Firstly I talked to the sponsors with whom I work like SMT and Venus . I fixed sponsors for all 9 speakers of the Session in first attempt.

I was little bit worried about availability of interesting cases on interventions. We called for papers in our group and Alhamdulillah got tremendous response within short time . Then we select the papers on the basis of their merit .

Next we assigned sponsors for each nine participants who took care of them till ends with utmost sincerity.

Lastly the day came to stage my dream. Alhamdulillah it was excellent in one word. All the participants tried their best to perform brilliant. Dr Zahid Amin , a top ranking cardiologist in the world also appreciated the speakers . He moderated the Session with me.
My heartfelt thanks to all participants for upholding the image of Bangladesh .

Meet little Anaya, 4-year-old girl who was diagnosed with a Ventricular Septal Defect (VSD) since birth.

Her case was challenging, and closing the defect required careful planning and expertise. After thorough evaluation, we successfully performed VSD device closure using a 20 mm ASD device on 07/05/2026.

Today, Anaya came back to our OPD for follow-up—and seeing her smiling, active, and doing well was the most rewarding part of the journey.

From a little heart with a difficult defect to a happy child growing normally—Anaya’s story is a beautiful reminder that the right treatment at the right time can change a life.

‎গ্রামের অসহায় মানুষের পাশে দাঁড়িয়ে স্বাস্থ্যসেবা, শিক্ষা ও সামাজিক উন্নয়নের জন্য নানা উদ্যোগ নিয়ে মানুষ মানুষের জন্য—এই মানবিক দর্শনকে সামনে রেখে দীর্ঘদিন ধরে অসহায় ও সুবিধাবঞ্চিত মানুষের কল্যাণে কাজ করে যাচ্ছে ওয়াদুদ-ময়মুন্নেসা ফাউন্ডেশন। মৌলভীবাজার জেলার বড়লেখা উপজেলার পাকশাইল গ্রামে প্রতিষ্ঠিত এ ফাউন্ডেশন স্বাস্থ্যসেবা, শিক্ষা, মানবকল্যাণ ও সামাজিক উন্নয়নমূলক বিভিন্ন কার্যক্রমের মাধ্যমে স্থানীয় মানুষের জীবনে ইতিবাচক পরিবর্তন আনার চেষ্টা করছে। বিশেষ করে অর্থের অভাবে চিকিৎসাসেবা থেকে বঞ্চিত মানুষের জন্য ফাউন্ডেশন পরিচালিত কমিউনিটি হাসপাতালটি হয়ে উঠেছে আশার একটি জায়গা।
‎এই কমিউনিটি হাসপাতালটির কার্যক্রম প্রশংসনীয়, প্রত্যন্ত পাকশাইল গ্রামের মানুষের জন্য চিকিৎসার জন্য একমাত্র ভরসা হচ্ছে এই হাসপাতালটি, অসুস্থ রোগীরা গ্রামের মধ্যেই হাসপাতালটি থাকায় দ্রুত চিকিৎসা সেবা নিতে পারছে, শহর থেকে এই গ্রামের দূরত্ব পায় বিশ কিলোমিটার, যার কারনে একজন মানুষ অসুস্থ হয়ে পড়লে শহরে নিয়ে চিকিৎসা সেবা দিতে হলে ভোগান্তির মধ্যে পড়তে হয়। এই হাসপাতালটি কাছে হওয়ায় সহজেই প্রাথমিক চিকিৎসা গুলো নিতে পারেন গ্রামের সাধারণ মানুষ। গ্রামের মধ্যে এমন একটি হাসপাতাল হওয়ায় গ্রামের মানুষও খুশি। এক সময় গ্রামের মধ্যে হাসপাতাল না থাকায় সময় মত চিকিৎসা না দেওয়ার কারণে অনেক রোগী মারা যেত। গ্রামের মানুষ যাতে সহজে চিকিৎসা সেবা পায় সেই কথা চিন্তা করে গ্রামের মধ্যে একটি হাসপাতাল বানানোর উদ্যোগ নেন গ্রামের কৃতি সন্তান ডাক্তার নুরুন্নাহার ফাতেমা।
‎২০০৭ সালে স্বাধীনতা পদকপ্রাপ্ত প্রখ্যাত শিশু হৃদরোগ বিশেষজ্ঞ ডা. নুরুন্নাহার ফাতেমা বেগম তাঁর বাবা-মায়ের স্মৃতিকে ধারণ করে ওয়াদুদ-ময়মুন্নেসা ফাউন্ডেশন প্রতিষ্ঠা করেন। প্রতিষ্ঠার শুরু থেকেই মানুষের কল্যাণকে সর্বোচ্চ গুরুত্ব দিয়ে প্রতিষ্ঠানটি বিভিন্ন জনকল্যাণমূলক কর্মসূচি পরিচালনা করে আসছে। সময়ের সঙ্গে ফাউন্ডেশনের কার্যক্রমের পরিধিও বিস্তৃত হয়েছে। প্রত্যন্ত এলাকার নিম্নআয়ের মানুষ যাতে প্রয়োজনীয় স্বাস্থ্যসেবা থেকে বঞ্চিত না হন, সে লক্ষ্যেই বিশেষ গুরুত্ব দেওয়া হচ্ছে স্বাস্থ্যখাতকে।
‎‎ফাউন্ডেশন পরিচালিত কমিউনিটি হাসপাতালের মাধ্যমে গ্রামের অসহায় ও দরিদ্র রোগীদের চিকিৎসাসেবা প্রদান করা হচ্ছে। সাশ্রয়ী চিকিৎসাসেবার পাশাপাশি নিয়মিত আয়োজন করা হয় বিভিন্ন বিনামূল্যের চিকিৎসা কার্যক্রম। এর মধ্যে রয়েছে ফ্রি ফ্রাইডে ক্লিনিক, বিনামূল্যের খতনা ক্যাম্প, হার্ট স্ক্রিনিং ক্যাম্প, চক্ষু ক্যাম্প এবং বিনামূল্যে ওষুধ বিতরণ। চক্ষু ক্যাম্পের মাধ্যমে দরিদ্র রোগীদের ছানি অপসারণের ব্যবস্থা করা এবং প্রয়োজন অনুযায়ী চশমা প্রদান করা হচ্ছে। এসব উদ্যোগের ফলে প্রত্যন্ত অঞ্চলের অনেক মানুষ নিজ এলাকায় থেকেই প্রয়োজনীয় চিকিৎসাসেবা পাওয়ার সুযোগ পাচ্ছেন।
‎‎শুধু চিকিৎসা প্রদান নয়, রোগ প্রতিরোধ ও স্বাস্থ্যসচেতনতা বৃদ্ধিতেও কাজ করছে ফাউন্ডেশনটি। সাধারণ মানুষের মধ্যে জরুরি চিকিৎসা বিষয়ে সচেতনতা তৈরির লক্ষ্যে সিপিআর (CPR) ও বেসিক লাইফ সাপোর্ট (BLS) প্রশিক্ষণের আয়োজন করা হচ্ছে। আকস্মিক অসুস্থতা বা জরুরি পরিস্থিতিতে প্রাথমিকভাবে কীভাবে একজন মানুষকে সহায়তা করা যায়, সে বিষয়ে প্রশিক্ষণ প্রদানের মাধ্যমে স্থানীয় পর্যায়ে সক্ষমতা তৈরির উদ্যোগ নেওয়া হয়েছে।
‎‎স্বাস্থ্যসেবার পাশাপাশি শিক্ষা ও সামাজিক উন্নয়নেও রয়েছে ফাউন্ডেশনের নানা কার্যক্রম। দরিদ্র ও সুবিধাবঞ্চিত শিক্ষার্থীদের মধ্যে শিক্ষা উপকরণ বিতরণ, অসহায় রোগীদের চিকিৎসা সহায়তা, শীতার্ত মানুষের মধ্যে শীতবস্ত্র বিতরণ এবং বিভিন্ন দুর্যোগের সময় ত্রাণ ও খাদ্য সহায়তা প্রদান করা হয়। প্রয়োজনের সময়ে অসহায় মানুষের পাশে দাঁড়ানোর মাধ্যমে মানবিক সহায়তার পরিধি আরও বিস্তৃত করার চেষ্টা করছে প্রতিষ্ঠানটি।
‎‎ফাউন্ডেশনের এসব উদ্যোগের অন্যতম বৈশিষ্ট্য হলো—মানুষের প্রয়োজনকে গুরুত্ব দিয়ে কার্যক্রম পরিচালনা করা। চিকিৎসার পাশাপাশি সচেতনতা, শিক্ষা ও সামাজিক সহায়তাকে গুরুত্ব দেওয়ায় এর কার্যক্রম একটি সমন্বিত জনকল্যাণমূলক উদ্যোগে পরিণত হয়েছে। স্থানীয়ভাবে অনেক পরিবার চিকিৎসা ও অন্যান্য সহায়তার ক্ষেত্রে ফাউন্ডেশনের বিভিন্ন কর্মসূচি থেকে উপকৃত হচ্ছে।
‎‎পাকশাইলসহ আশপাশের এলাকার মানুষের কাছে ওয়াদুদ-ময়মুন্নেসা ফাউন্ডেশন এখন একটি মানবিক প্রতিষ্ঠানের নাম। মানুষের বিপদে পাশে দাঁড়ানো, অসহায় রোগীদের চিকিৎসাসেবা দেওয়া এবং সুবিধাবঞ্চিত মানুষের জন্য বিভিন্ন সহায়তা নিশ্চিত করার মধ্য দিয়ে প্রতিষ্ঠানটি স্থানীয় পর্যায়ে আস্থা তৈরি করেছে। বিশেষ করে প্রত্যন্ত অঞ্চলে স্বাস্থ্যসেবা পৌঁছে দেওয়ার ক্ষেত্রে কমিউনিটি হাসপাতালটির ভূমিকা গুরুত্বপূর্ণ হয়ে উঠেছে।
‎‎সংশ্লিষ্টরা জানান, মানুষের কল্যাণে পরিচালিত এসব কার্যক্রম ভবিষ্যতেও ধারাবাহিকভাবে অব্যাহত থাকবে। পাশাপাশি প্রয়োজন ও সক্ষমতা অনুযায়ী স্বাস্থ্যসেবা, শিক্ষা এবং সামাজিক উন্নয়নমূলক কার্যক্রম আরও সম্প্রসারণের পরিকল্পনাও রয়েছে। মানুষের পাশে দাঁড়িয়ে মানবিক সমাজ গঠনে অবদান রাখাই ওয়াদুদ-ময়মুন্নেসা ফাউন্ডেশনের মূল লক্ষ্য। সেই লক্ষ্যকে সামনে রেখে প্রতিষ্ঠানটির পথচলা আগামী দিনেও অব্যাহত থাকবে—এমন প্রত্যাশা স্থানীয় মানুষের।

1. Faiza Khandoker
- Age: 6M | Gender: Female | Weight: 4.7 kg | Hb%: 10.8 g/dl
- History: H/O Prematurity with LBW (1.8kg), Repeated RTI, H/O Bronchiolitis, Failure to thrive, Diagnosed at birth.
- Diagnosis: Moderate PDA- 3 mm
- Procedure: PDA device closure, Device size: 8/6.

2. A memorable intervention in world heart day .
Device occlusion of MAPCA communication with Rt subclavian and Main pulmonary artery. Arteriarterial fistula .

Abu Bakkar
- Age: 1.8 Y | Gender: Male | Weight: 8.6 kg | Hb%: 7.7 g/dl
- History: Repeated RTI, Breathing difficulty, H/O pneumonia, Diagnosed 3M back
- echo Diagnosis: Moderate right sided PDA with 3.5 mm with two jet.

Aortogram – Showed MAPCA supplying right lung. Upper one at the level of T4 was large & formed arterio-arterial communication with right subclavian artery which in turn draining into main pulmonary artery.

Another 3 MAPCA seen which are small, at level of T5,T6 & T7 supplying right Lung.

Another MAPCA seen coming out from Left common carotid artery and supplying left lung.

RV angiogram: Coarsely trabeculated anteriorly located RV ejecting to PA and supplying both lungs . There is no PS noticed.

Procedure – Largest MAPCA at T4 level which formed arterio-arterial fistula was engaged with JR 5Fr Guide catheter and embolized with 4/6 ADOII device. Aortogram after MAPCA embolization showed no residual MAPCA and arterio-arterial fistula. Other 3 MAPCAs were not significant an left open.





Diagnosis:

4 MAPCAs suppling right lung and forming arterio-arterial communication with largest one t4 level.
One MAPCA supplying left lung
Largest MAPCA embolized with 4/6 ADO II device. (29-Sep-2026).

Non significant flow through em olized one Rest MAPCAs left open
Mild TR.
Dilated LA & LV.
Mild pulmonary hypertension.


3. Farishta Islam
- Age: 9 M | Gender: Female | Weight: 7.4 kg | Hb%: 11.3 g/dl
- History: Repeated RTI, H/O pneumonia & H/O bluish coloration of skin during crying, Breath holding attacks occasionally, H/O Allergy, H/O fever 10 days back, Diagnosed at birth
- Diagnosis: PS-65 mmHg; PV annulus 8mm, Moderate ASD 20
- Procedure: BVP for PS, Balloon size: 12x3.and 14x3 . Post Procedure RVP 28 mm hg .

4. Safwan Adnan Farabi
- Age: 1.1 Y | Gender: Male | Weight: 11 kg | Hb%: 11.1 g/dl,
- History: Repeated RTI, Noisy breathing, Feeding difficulty, Diagnosed at 1M of age
- Diagnosis: Small PDA- 3 mm
- Procedure: PDA device closure, Device size: 6/4.

5. Ridika
- Age: 5 Y | Gender: Female | Weight: 12 kg | Hb%: 11.5 g/dl
- History: Repeated RTI, Palpitation, Diagnosed at 8M of age
- Diagnosis: Large ASD: 16mm; I-12, S-7, IAS-44mm, Another Small ASD 20
- Procedure: ASD device closure, Device size: 22 mm cocoon device.

6. Sidratul Montaha
- Age: 6.10 Y | Gender: Female | Weight: 16 kg | Hb%: 11.9 g/dl
- History: Repeated RTI, Chest pain occasionally, Effort intolerance, Feeding difficulty, Failure to thrive, H/O bluish coloration of skin during crying, Diagnosed 1Y back
- Diagnosis: Large ASD: 9mm; I-9, S-11, IAS-32mm
- Procedure: ASD device closure, Device size: 20 mm cocoon

7. Hafsa
- Age: 9.5 Y | Gender: Female | Weight: 38 kg | Hb%: 12.8 g/dl
- History: Repeated RTI, Breathing difficulty, Palpitation, Diagnosed at 15 Days of age
- Diagnosis: Small subaortic VSD: 3mm
- Procedure: VSD device closure, Device size: 7x5 MFO

8. Hafsa Akter
- Age:15 Y | Gender: Female | Weight: 47 kg | Hb%: 12.6 g/dl
- History: Repeated chest pain & breathing difficulty without any exertion, Diagnosed 1M back.
- Diagnosis; Large ASD: 17mm; I-11, S-12, IAS-42mm
- Procedure: ASD device closure, Device size: 22.
