IUB Faculty Member Represents Bangladesh at International Conference in Japan.

Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) proudly congratulates Dr. Bilkis Banu, Associate Professor, Department of Public Health, and the MPH students on their participation in the 12th International Conference for Women in Science without Borders at Hiroshima University, Japan, on July 18 to 20, 2026.

As an invited speaker, Dr. Banu delivered a talk on "Healthcare in the Digital Age: Empowering Patient Self-Management through mHealth Innovations" and presented her research on men's knowledge of women's menopause in urban Bangladesh.
Three IUB MPH students (Marzana Hossain, Ami Das, and Isfat Jahan Bristi) also presented their research at the conference.
During the visit, Dr. Banu held collaboration meetings with the Graduate School of Biomedical and Health Sciences, Hiroshima University, Japan, to strengthen future academic and research partnerships.

The Department of Public Health, Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB), is proud to share that Dr. Bilkis Banu participated as a distinguished speaker in the Research Sector session at Nutri Career Fest 2026, held on 26-27 June 2026 at Sher-E-Bangla Agriculture University, Dhaka, Bangladesh.

National Dialogue on Early Childhood Development Policy and Practice

The Department of Public Health, Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB), in collaboration with the Bangladesh ECD Network (BEN), successfully organized a transdisciplinary seminar titled "National Dialogue on Early Childhood Development Policy and Practice" on 22 June 2026.

The seminar served as a significant platform for fostering meaningful dialogue among policymakers, academics, researchers, development practitioners, and representatives from government and non-government organizations. Discussions focused on key issues surrounding Early Childhood Development (ECD), including policy formulation, teacher professional development, curriculum reform, and effective implementation strategies to ensure sustainable and inclusive child development programs in Bangladesh.

We were deeply honored to welcome Mr. Bobby Hajjaj, MP, Honorable State Minister for Primary and Mass Education, as the Chief Guest, whose valuable insights reinforced the importance of strengthening collaborative efforts to advance early childhood development nationwide.

The Department of Public Health remains committed to promoting evidence-based policy discussions, interdisciplinary collaboration, and academic engagement that contribute to improving public health and human development in Bangladesh. The Department of Public Health, Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB), organized a seminar titled “Career Opportunities and Professional Scope for Nutrition Professionals: The Role of Public Health Research in Advancing National and Global Development” on June 19, 2026, bringing together nutrition professionals, academics, researchers, policymakers, and development practitioners from across the country.

The seminar was enriched by the presence of distinguished guests Dr. Shyamol Kumar Roy, Department Head (Laboratory), Institute of Public Health Nutrition (IPHN); Ms. Saiqa Siraj, Head of Climate Bridge Fund, BRAC; Ms. Shamsun Naher Mohua, Chief Nutrition Officer and Head of Nutrition, BIRDEM General Hospital, and Prof. Daniel W. Lund, Pro Vice Chancellor, IUB, Dr. Kamran ul Baset, Associate Professor, Department of Public Health and Dean, School of Pharmacy and Public Health, IUB, Respected Faculties of Department of Public Health, IUB and 120 guests from different organizations and institutes of Bangladesh.

The seminar commenced with welcome remarks from Dr Bilkis Banu, Associate Professor and Acting Head of the Department of Public Health, Independent University amd Bangladesh. Professor Daniel W. Lund also expressed his speech and experience on importance of Nutrition in recent era.

The first keynote session was delivered by Ms. Shamsun Naher Mohua on “Career Opportunities for Nutrition Professionals in Advancing National and Global Development.” She highlighted the growing demand for skilled nutrition professionals and their critical role in improving health outcomes and supporting sustainable development goals.

The second keynote session was presented by Dr. Bilkis Banu on “Professional Scope for Nutrition Professionals: The Role of Public Health Research in Advancing National and Global Development.” She emphasized the importance of evidence-based public health research in addressing nutrition-related challenges and informing policy and practice.

The session was chaired by Dr. Kamran ul Baset who highlighted the importance of strengthening nutrition education, research, and professional development to address emerging public health challenges.

The event was ended by the speech and vote of Thanks from S M Raysul Haque, Assistant Professor and Academic Coordinator, Department of Public Health, IUB.

The seminar provided a platform for meaningful dialogue on career pathways, research opportunities, and the evolving role of nutrition professionals in advancing national and global development. Presence of such experienced panel and young enthusiasts is what made this event a wonderful scope of sharing knowledge, Guideline and Networking.
