The Department of Public Health, Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB), organized a seminar titled “Career Opportunities and Professional Scope for Nutrition Professionals: The Role of Public Health Research in Advancing National and Global Development” on June 19, 2026, bringing together nutrition professionals, academics, researchers, policymakers, and development practitioners from across the country.
The seminar was enriched by the presence of distinguished guests Dr. Shyamol Kumar Roy, Department Head (Laboratory), Institute of Public Health Nutrition (IPHN); Ms. Saiqa Siraj, Head of Climate Bridge Fund, BRAC; Ms. Shamsun Naher Mohua, Chief Nutrition Officer and Head of Nutrition, BIRDEM General Hospital, and Prof. Daniel W. Lund, Pro Vice Chancellor, IUB, Dr. Kamran ul Baset, Associate Professor, Department of Public Health and Dean, School of Pharmacy and Public Health, IUB, Respected Faculties of Department of Public Health, IUB and 120 guests from different organizations and institutes of Bangladesh.
The seminar commenced with welcome remarks from Dr Bilkis Banu, Associate Professor and Acting Head of the Department of Public Health, Independent University amd Bangladesh. Professor Daniel W. Lund also expressed his speech and experience on importance of Nutrition in recent era.
The first keynote session was delivered by Ms. Shamsun Naher Mohua on “Career Opportunities for Nutrition Professionals in Advancing National and Global Development.” She highlighted the growing demand for skilled nutrition professionals and their critical role in improving health outcomes and supporting sustainable development goals.
The second keynote session was presented by Dr. Bilkis Banu on “Professional Scope for Nutrition Professionals: The Role of Public Health Research in Advancing National and Global Development.” She emphasized the importance of evidence-based public health research in addressing nutrition-related challenges and informing policy and practice.
The session was chaired by Dr. Kamran ul Baset who highlighted the importance of strengthening nutrition education, research, and professional development to address emerging public health challenges.
The event was ended by the speech and vote of Thanks from S M Raysul Haque, Assistant Professor and Academic Coordinator, Department of Public Health, IUB.
The seminar provided a platform for meaningful dialogue on career pathways, research opportunities, and the evolving role of nutrition professionals in advancing national and global development. Presence of such experienced panel and young enthusiasts is what made this event a wonderful scope of sharing knowledge, Guideline and Networking.
