Remembering the Inauguration of National Liver Foundation of Bangladesh, Sylhet facility
The Inauguration ceremony of the National Liver Foundation of Bangladesh, Sylhet (NLFB Sylhet) was held on Saturday, May 31, 2025 at its own premise, East Eidgah, Sylhet.
The present facility has been constructed by the Foundation with its own funding on land allocated by the Govt. of Bangladesh. The center will provide a government-approved laboratory, testing facilities and regular services from Hepatologists, Gastroenterologists and other physicians. The service will be at affordable cost and free for underprivileged patients.
The event was chaired over by Professor Mohammad Ali, Founder Secretary General of the National Liver Foundation of Bangladesh.
The Chief Guest was Khan Md. Rezaul Nabi, Divisional Commissioner, Sylhet, Special Guests were Prof. M. Anisur Rahman, former Head Dept. of Gastroenterology, BIRDEM General Hospital and Prof. Dr. Md. Ziaur Rahman Chowdhury, Principal, MAG Osmani Medical College.
Significant event was free Hepatitis B and C testing and Hepatitis B vaccinations for all residents of Govt. Shishu Paribar (Girls), Raynagar, Sylhet.
A special video message from Mr. Cary James, CEO of the World Hepatitis Alliance (WHA), Geneva and Dr. John Ward, Director of the Coalition for Global Hepatitis Elimination (CGHE), USA were displayed.
Professor Madhusudan Saha, Chairman of NLFB Sylhet and Head, Dept. of Gastroenterology, Sylhet Women’s Medical College delivered welcome address. Prof. Syed Alamgir Safwath, Secretary General, NLFB Sylhet and Head , Dept. of Gastroenterology, Jalalabad Ragib-Rabeya Medical College outlined the NLFB Sylhet’s past activities, current services and future plans. Dr. Mustak Ahmed, Organizing Secretary, NLFB Sylhet and Associate Prof. Dept. of Gastroenterology Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College expressed gratitude to all participating physicians, medical students, journalists and representatives of various social and health organizations for joining and supporting this noble cause.
Zunaid Murshed Paiker, Chief Executive of the National Liver Foundation of Bangladesh, presented an overview of past and present activities of the Foundation.
The event was attended by physicians, medical students, journalists and representatives from various social organizations.
The National Liver Foundation of Bangladesh is calling upon the Govt. of Bangladesh and respected nationals living home and abroad for their full support and cooperation in setting up this specialized hospital facility for liver diseases in Sylhet.
The program was hosted by Dr. Benjamin, the overall arrangements were managed by Shawkatur Rahman, Chief Executive Officer, NLFB Sylhet.
