💫Actionable priority agendas for achieving UHC || SHRL proposed Patient Empowerment integration to PHC 💫

On 8 March 2026, a significant policy dialogue titled “Actionable Priority Agendas for Achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC)” was successfully held. The session brought together key stakeholders to discuss practical priorities and necessary reforms to accelerate Bangladesh’s journey toward achieving Universal Health Coverage.

Prof. Dr. Fatema Ashraf, Chairman, Smart Healthcare and Research Ltd. (SHRL) attended the event and shared valuable insights during the discussion.

Bangladesh has made commendable progress in reducing maternal mortality in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). However, approximately 4,000 maternal deaths still occur every year. Gaps in service accessibility, lack of awareness, transportation barriers to healthcare facilities, and unsafe home deliveries continue to contribute to these preventable losses.

During the dialogue, SHRL proposed integrating the Patient Empowerment Model into Primary Healthcare Services. 📌
Evidence from SHRL’s work shows that this approach significantly improves health outcomes in Gestational Diabetes Mellitus (GDM) management, and shows promising benefits in Diabetes Mellitus, PCOS, infertility, and other non-communicable diseases (NCDs). Empowered patients are more engaged in their care, leading to better adherence, improved outcomes, and reduced healthcare costs.

SHRL emphasized that patient empowerment could be a missing pillar in achieving Universal Health Coverage, helping make primary healthcare more effective, patient-centered, and sustainable. 💫

৮ মার্চ ২০২৬ তারিখে “Actionable Priority Agendas for Achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC)” শীর্ষক একটি গুরুত্বপূর্ণ পলিসি ডায়ালগ সফলভাবে অনুষ্ঠিত হয়েছে। বাংলাদেশের Universal Health Coverage (UHC) অর্জনের লক্ষ্যে বাস্তবসম্মত অগ্রাধিকার নির্ধারণ এবং প্রয়োজনীয় স্বাস্থ্যব্যবস্থা সংস্কার নিয়ে বিভিন্ন অংশীজনের অংশগ্রহণে ফলপ্রসূ আলোচনা অনুষ্ঠিত হয়।

এই আলোচনায় Smart Healthcare and Research Ltd. (SHRL)-এর চেয়ারম্যান প্রফেসর ডাঃ ফাতেমা আশরাফ অংশগ্রহণ করেন এবং গুরুত্বপূর্ণ মতামত প্রদান করেন।

বাংলাদেশ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)-এর লক্ষ্যে মাতৃমৃত্যু হার কমাতে উল্লেখযোগ্য অগ্রগতি অর্জন করলেও এখনও প্রতি বছর প্রায় ৪,০০০ মাতৃমৃত্যু ঘটে। স্বাস্থ্যসেবার সীমাবদ্ধতা, সচেতনতার অভাব, সময়মতো স্বাস্থ্যকেন্দ্রে পৌঁছানোর সমস্যা এবং বাড়িতে অনিরাপদ প্রসবের মতো বিষয়গুলো এখনও এই প্রতিরোধযোগ্য মৃত্যুর পেছনে ভূমিকা রাখছে।

📌আলোচনায় SHRL প্রাথমিক স্বাস্থ্যসেবার সঙ্গে “রোগী ক্ষমতায়ন (Patient Empowerment) মডেল” অন্তর্ভুক্ত করার প্রস্তাব তুলে ধরে। SHRL-এর অভিজ্ঞতায় দেখা গেছে, এই পদ্ধতি গর্ভকালীন ডায়াবেটিস (GDM) ব্যবস্থাপনায় উল্লেখযোগ্যভাবে স্বাস্থ্যগত ফলাফল উন্নত করে। পাশাপাশি এটি ডায়াবেটিস, PCOS, বন্ধ্যাত্ব এবং অন্যান্য অসংক্রামক রোগ ব্যবস্থাপনাতেও ইতিবাচক প্রভাব ফেলছে।

SHRL মনে করে, Universal Health Coverage অর্জনের ক্ষেত্রে “রোগী ক্ষমতায়ন” একটি অপরিহার্য অংশ, যা প্রাথমিক স্বাস্থ্যসেবাকে আরও কার্যকর, রোগীকেন্দ্রিক ও টেকসই করতে সহায়তা করতে পারে। 💫
