It is a great honor for us to congratulate the eminent researcher and academician, Professor Dr. Mohammad Abul Faiz, on receiving the prestigious "Dr. LEE Jong-wook Memorial Prize for Public Health" for 2026 from the World Health Organization (WHO).

His pioneering research in the management and treatment of snakebites, malaria, and other neglected tropical diseases has saved countless lives. This work has significantly reduced mortality and morbidity, particularly among marginalized and vulnerable populations in the South-East Asian Region.

As a clinician and Professor of Medicine, rather than limiting his impact to treating individual patients, he dedicated himself to research and public health for the greater benefit of mankind. While working at Chittagong Medical College, he witnessed many snakebite patients being maltreated. Driven by this challenge, he pursued a PhD in Russell's Viper venom characterization at Newcastle University. Later, under his visionary leadership, he established a dedicated Snakebite Study Clinic at Chittagong Medical College Hospital to ensure comprehensive care and management.

Similarly, to advance the coordinated treatment of malaria, he formed a specialized malaria research group that established evidence-based management protocols. Today, his team is conducting a clinical trial for a malaria vaccine in the Alikadam Upazila of the Bandarban district.

An alumnus of Chittagong Medical College, Professor Faiz has served in several distinguished leadership roles, including Principal of Dhaka Medical College, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Dhaka, and Director General of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

We are incredibly grateful and honored that he attended and inspired us at our recent research seminar. We wish him a long, healthy, and blessed life.
