Wreetu had a meaningful and action-oriented discussion with the Hon'ble State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Bobby Hajjaj and his team today at his office at the Bangladesh Secretariat. From Wreetu, our Founder Ms. Sharmin Kabir led the discussion with our colleague Mr. Shekh Farid.

According to UNICEF, in Bangladesh, the average age of menarche (first menstruation) is around 11 to 12 years old and roughly 47% to 53% of girls reach menarche without any prior information about menstruation.

In reality, a contrast information found in a study that states that 41% of tween girls just get their menarche when they are in class 4-5 (ages 9-11) and 64-70% of adolescent girls have zero Preparation for menstruation before their first period.

In Bangladesh, students get introduced to topics like puberty for girls and boys, bodily changes and menstrual hygiene management in class 6-7 that is surely a big leap for the students to follow because by the time they are introduced, more than 40% have already experienced the period trauma and completed few months to year on their period.

So, there needs a bridge between the primary school curriculum to secondary so students and teachers can follow the smooth trasition, easily.

Right now, the Primary School Curriculum does not cover puberty topics. So, there needs an introduction to Pre-pubertal
literacy program in primary school so the girls students specifically can make them prepared for the bodily changes caused to puberty and menstruation.

Wreetu has a 10 years of experiences working in this sector successfully engaging the boys and men, Dads and Mothers and school stake holders in overcoming period poverty.

The Hon'ble Minister and his team have also agreed to this gap and are aligned with the long term vision to introduce these topics gradually in the Primary School Curriculum considering the cultural contexts, age-stratified needs and geographical demands.

We are happy to be a part of this important discussion that can bring a revolutionary changes among our girls and boys making them aware of their bodily changes so they can own their 'Own Changes' and confidently deal with this.

২০২১ সালের ১৮ আগস্ট পার্বত্য জেলা খাগড়াছড়ির দূর্গম পাহাড়ি অঞ্চলে YOUTH HUB ও Wreetu'র সহায়তায় মাসিক স্বাস্থ্য সচেতনতা বিষয়ক কর্মশালা বাস্তবায়ন করে Love For Human Bangladesh-LFHBD

কিছুটা পেছনের গল্পে আসি।

পার্বত্য অঞ্চলের প্রায় প্রতিটি পাড়ায় পানির তীব্র সংকট। পাশাপাশি আর্থিক সংকটাপন্ন অবস্থার কারণে এই অঞ্চলের নারী ও শিশুরা সবসময়ই থাকে ঝুঁকিপূর্ণ অবস্থায়। বিশেষ করে মাসিককালীন অবস্থায় দূর্গম পাহাড়ি এসব অঞ্চলে কিশোরী ও নারীদের পড়তে হতো মারাত্মক স্বাস্থ্যঝুঁকিতে। একে তো বিশুদ্ধ পানির তীব্র সংকট, অপরদিকে মাসিককালীন স্বাস্থ্যসচেতনতা নিয়ে শূন্য জ্ঞান আর আর্থিক অস্বচ্ছলতা তো রয়েছেই, যার ফলে এই কিশোরী এবং নারীরা বিভিন্ন সময়েই পড়তো প্রজনন স্বাস্থ্য সম্পর্কিত বিভিন্ন রোগব্যাধিতে। তাই এর একমাত্র সমাধান ছিলো, মাসিককালীন স্বাস্থ্য সুরক্ষা নিয়ে প্রবল সচেতনা বৃদ্ধি করা।

এতো বড় পাহাড়ি জনপদের এই সমস্যা সমাধান করা দুরূহ বিষয়, কিন্তু ছোট হলেও এই উদ্যোগে এগিয়ে এসেছিলো লাভ ফর হিউম্যান বাংলাদেশ-এলএফএইচবিডি।

শিক্ষার্থীভিত্তিক এই স্বেচ্ছাসেবী সংগঠনের ঢাকা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় এবং চট্টগ্রাম বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের একদল আদিবাসী স্বেচ্ছাসেবকের সক্রিয় তত্বাবধানে সংগঠনটি উদ্যোগী হয় এবিষয়ে সচেতনতা তৈরীর ক্যাম্পেইনে।

প্রাথমিকভাবে নির্বাচন করা হয় খাগড়াছড়ির মানিকছড়ি উপজেলার দূর্গম পাহাড়ি জনপদকে। কিন্তু সচেতনতা তৈরীর ক্যাম্পেইনে অংশগ্রহণে পাহাড়ি কিশোরী ও নারীদের উদ্ভুদ্ধ করতে প্রয়োজন ছিলো এমন কিছু যা আকর্ষণীয় এবং একইসাথে প্রয়োজনীয়। সেসময় টিম এলএফএইচবিডি'র পাশে এসে দাঁড়ায় YOUTH HUB এবং বাংলাদেশের ১ম রিইউজেবল স্যানিটারি ন্যাপকিন প্রস্তুতকারী সংস্থা Wreetu. তারা বিনামূল্যে টিম এলএফএইচবিডি'কে প্রদান করে রিইউজেবল স্যানিটারি ন্যাপকিন।

এই ক্যাম্পেইনে মাসিককালীন স্বাস্থ্যসুরক্ষা নিয়ে দূর্গম পাহাড়ে আয়োজন করা হয় দিনব্যাপী কর্মশালা। যার মাধ্যমে তৈরী করা হয়ে সচেতনতা।এর পাশাপাশি এই বার্তা ছড়িয়ে দিতে তৈরী করা হয় কমিউনিটি এঙ্গেজমেন্ট গ্রুপ। সবশেষে অংশগ্রহণকারী কিশোরী ও নারীদের মাসিককালীন সময়কে কিছুটা স্বস্তিবিতরণ করা হয় Wreetu এর রিইউজেবল স্যানিটারি ন্যাপকিন।

আমরা জানি, সমস্যার তুলনায় সমাধানের এই পদক্ষেপ ছিলো অতি সামান্য, তবে প্রত্যেকটি সমাধানের প্রথম পদক্ষেপই গুরুত্বপূর্ণ। কারণ তা থেকেই শুরু হয় সম্ভাবনা।

সেই সম্ভাবনার হাত ধরেই Wreetu এবং Love For Human Bangladesh-LFHBD আবারো যাচ্ছে দূর্গম পাহাড়ে।

মাসিক স্বাস্থ্য সুরক্ষা নিশ্চিত করতে আমরা এবার কাজ করছি প্রান্তিক পর্যায়ে। গ্রামের কিশোরীদের মাসিক স্বাস্থ্য নিয়ে সচেতন করার পাশাপাশি ঋতু কমিক বই ও রিইউজেবল স্যানিটারি ন্যাপকিন উপহার দিয়েছে ঋতু।

Our Founder Ms. Sharmin Kabir had a wholesome discussion with the legend actress and director Afsana Mimi about the role of fathers, boys and men in period discussions and how an intergenerational wellbeing can easily be achieved by educating the adolescent and young people with the proper information on MHM and SRHR.

Wreetu is deeply committed to the work we do. From taking a project from grant-supported to a sustainable business, this is a story worth studying.

At Wreetu, we invest our time, effort, and resources into getting the best possible results for the communities we work with.

Our community-based SRHR and MHM program in the Mirpur slum is one example of how we're building sustainable slum communities while ensuring women's dignity, menstrual health justice, and economic opportunity for the young girls and women living there.

Over the 4+ years of this project, we've evaluated its progress and impact closely.

We're happy to share that the research abstract from this work has been accepted for a paper presentation at University at Social Entrepreneurship Summit 2026 in Italy.

Taking a local story of a menstrual-health-led organization onto a global stage is a huge opportunity and a chance to show how grassroots Bangladeshi projects can earn global attention.

Wreetu has some own-funded projects. With a hybrid model business structure, Wreetu is immensely proud contributing to peoples lives directly and indirectly.

Last year, with Puron Jubo Foundation, we implemented a community-demanded project on WASH and MHM in Pathatghata, Barguna.

Under this initiative, in Bede Palli, we built a toilet and conducted community sessions on MHM encouraging everyone to participate fully for a hygiene and healthy living environment for girls and women.

It is our responsibility to extend our support possible for our surrounding peoples and Wreetu is rooted in this fundamental principle. Our goal is to continuing supporting every girl and woman so they can live a life of dignity and self-esteem in MHM and WASH.

We also invite every one of the society to come forward for our society and contribute towards a gender equal Bangladesh.

পিরিয়ডের দিনগুলোতে শরীর একটু ভারী লাগে, পেটে টান ধরে, মনও কখনো ক্লান্ত হয়ে যায়। তাই এই সময় নিজের যত্ন নেওয়া খুব জরুরি। এই ভিডিওতে পিরিয়ডের সময় নিরাপদ ও সুস্থ থাকার ৫টি সহজ টিপস দেওয়া হয়েছে, যেগুলো প্রতিদিনের অভ্যাসে রাখলে অনেক বেশি স্বস্তি পাওয়া যায়।
