BizBook is live: the pharmacy counter, finally off paper
Why a health organisation built a point-of-sale app — and why it works without internet.
Today we're launching BizBook, FieldHealth-Africa's AI-powered POS and inventory app, now available on Google Play [replace with Play Store link].
The shelf of expired medicine
FieldHealth-Africa is a health organisation, not a software company. But if you work alongside community pharmacies long enough, one problem becomes impossible to ignore.
Walk into a neighbourhood pharmacy and ask how stock is managed. The answer is usually an exercise book, a drawer of supplier invoices, and the memory of whoever has worked there longest. Expiry dates are checked when someone has time — which means they're often found too late. Every expired box is money the pharmacy will never get back, and in the worst case, a dispensing risk.
The tools that solve this exist — for supermarkets in cities with fibre internet and IT budgets. They assume constant connectivity, monthly fees in dollars, and a computer at the counter. None of that describes the pharmacies we work with.
What we built for pharmacies
BizBook adapts to your business type during a 2-minute setup. Tell it you're a pharmacy, and the whole app reshapes itself:
Batches and expiry on every restock. Each delivery carries its batch number and expiry date. The Expiring Soon tab and automatic alerts warn you while there's still time to sell or promote — not after the loss.
Exact stock, always. Every movement — purchase, sale, return, adjustment, waste — is a ledger entry. You can see who changed what, when, and why.
A Pharmacist role. Staff get their own logins and only see what you allow. A dispensing assistant can sell all day without ever seeing cost prices, margins, or the day's takings.
AI that removes typing. Photograph a product and the form fills itself. Photograph a supplier's delivery invoice and the line items become a draft purchase — a huge time-saver on big deliveries. Every AI result is reviewed by you before it's saved.
Reorder predictions. BizBook watches the real sales pace of each product and tells you what to reorder before the shelf goes empty.
Offline is not a feature. It's the foundation.
Every core function — selling, receipts, invoices, stock, reports, backups — works with the internet off. Not a degraded mode: the app is built offline-first, because the counter can't stop when the network does. Only the optional AI features and cloud sync touch the internet at all.
And the data stays yours: it lives on your phone, and a free one-tap backup exports your entire business to a single file you keep. No lock-in, on any plan, forever.
Beyond the pharmacy
Everything above works just as well for supermarkets, provision stores, hardware shops, and restaurants — the same setup wizard reshapes BizBook for each. Sales and unlimited free POS receipts, invoices and quotes, credit clients with ledgers, expenses, cash and bank tracking, staff attendance, and plain-language reports ("top 5 products by profit this month") are all in the box.
