Findings in Hepatic Encephalopathy (HE)

T1-weighted MRI
Typical finding
Bilateral symmetric T1 hyperintensity in the globus pallidus
May also involve substantia nigra / midbrain in severe cases

T2 / FLAIR MRI

Typical findings
Symmetric FLAIR/T2 hyperintensity along corticospinal tracts
Diffuse hemispheric white matter hyperintensity
Sometimes reversible focal white matter lesions

Metronidazole আমাদের দেশে বহুল ব্যবহৃত ঔষধ যার ব্যবহারের চেয়ে অপব্যবহারই বেশী।

এটা
Altered Mental Status
Epilepsy
Polyneuropathy
Oculomotor abnormalities
Hemiparesis করতে পারে।

তবে গুরুত্বপূর্ণ হলো Cerebellar toxicity. এটা বিশেষত dentate nucleus of cerebellum কে involve করতে পারে। কয়েক সপ্তাহের ব্যবহারে এই ঘটনা হতে পারে। যা Metronidazole ব্যবহার বন্ধের পরে reverse করতে পারে।
