📢 Published in EJEM!

A new international study led by the EUSEM Emergency Medicine Day Working Group has been published in the European Journal of Emergency Medicine.

The survey collected responses from more than 1,300 emergency healthcare professionals in 81 countries and found that workplace violence remains a daily reality for many emergency medicine teams.

⚠️ 75.5% witnessed violence at work in the previous year
⚠️ Nearly 7 in 10 experienced psychological harm
⚠️ More than 4 in 10 experienced physical harm

The findings demonstrate the urgent need for safer workplaces, better prevention strategies and stronger support systems for emergency healthcare professionals.

Together we can create a safer environment for those who provide lifesaving care every day.

EUSEM was honoured to be invited to the World Health Organization (WHO) for a high-level brainstorming meeting, with a number of medical societies. EUSEM President, Dr Robert Leach represented the emergency medicine community.

This meeting marked an important step in shaping the WHO/Europe Medical Specialty Associations Engagement Initiative—bringing together leading medical organisations to collaborate on 5 Priority Areas for the Future:

💪 Health workforce transformation

🍏 Prevention and health promotion (including social & environmental determinants)

🤖 Digital health and artificial intelligence

🏥 Resilient health systems and integrated care

🌱 Climate change and environmental health

We look forward to working closely with WHO/Europe and fellow medical leaders to help drive meaningful, lasting improvements in patient care and public health.
