🔔 A crisis has been quietly building in poultry for decades, and most producers won't feel it until the day their program stops working.

No new pharmaceutical class has arrived in 50+ years, so you're working with the same tools your predecessors had. Every flock on the same continuous chemistry pushes resistance further, lowering the efficacy you'll need each cycle.

The idea that you can protect efficacy instead of spending it, is exactly the kind of thinking that earned us a feature in Food & Agribusiness, in a piece written by our own Dr Attila Kovács, DVM, MVSc, Global Business Development Director & Product Management. 🐔

The argument is refreshingly simple: it's time to let your coccidiosis program rest. Not by piling on more chemicals, but by building smarter rotation into it. A natural solution can take a real place in a shuttle program, not as a supplement to what you already use, but as a genuine alternative phase that replaces a treatment interval entirely. And while it carries the coccidiosis load for that stretch, your conventional treatments get the break from selection pressure they need to recover, coming back to the rotation stronger than when they left.

🚨Here's an uncomfortable truth for the industry: your feed can test low-risk, your mitigation program can be running exactly as designed, and your herd can still be losing pregnancies.

That's precisely what happened at a breeding farm in Southeast Asia. On paper, everything was in order. In the farrowing house, sows were aborting and piglets showed clear signs of estrogenic stress, a reproductive problem the feed analysis simply could not explain.

Here's what they found:
🐷 These piglets had never eaten a single gram of feed, and yet 4 different mycotoxins were detected in their system. But how?

The answer? Vertical transfer, where mycotoxins passed from the sow to her offspring before they ever encountered feed. It happens by two routes:
🔍 Across the placenta to the developing fetus
🔍 Through her milk

No feed test would ever have caught this. Biomonitoring does, and that's what it adds to reproductive management: it reveals what truly reached the sow and her offspring, and confirms whether your mitigation is actually working.

Making that hidden exposure visible is exactly the kind of work that just earned us a place in the July edition of Agri-Insights. This issue takes a closer look at what biomonitoring adds to reproductive management, through the vertical transfer of mycotoxins in swine, in a case study written by our very own Dr. Arnau Vidal and Dr. Francisco Pinto, Global Product Manager Biomonitoring & Mycotoxins. 🎉

These findings show a clear need for change: rethink the timeline of mycotoxin control, as mycotoxin risk in the breeding herd begins before the first feed.
