What are therapists actually listening for? 🧠
In therapy, we listen to your words — but not only to your words.
We also pay attention to what happens around them: the patterns that repeat, the emotions that shift, the moments of silence or avoidance, the way you relate to yourself and to others, what your nervous system might be communicating, and sometimes… what is difficult to put into words.
Because two people can tell the exact same story and experience it in completely different ways.
Therapy isn’t about analysing every sentence or searching for a hidden meaning behind everything you say. It’s about listening to the whole person — their story, emotions, body, relationships, protective strategies, resources and needs.
And little by little, making sense of all those pieces together. 🌿
Sometimes, what matters most in therapy isn’t only what is said — but what happens while it is being said.
