🎓 Three days of learning, new perspectives and meaningful conversations in Valencia.
The final day of the OECI Academy Residential Course Communicate Science explored how to communicate research to different audiences — from dissemination in EU-funded projects and communicating oncology on social media to involving patients in research and making science accessible beyond expert circles.
Throughout the three days, participants explored practical approaches to scientific writing, preparing conference abstracts and presentations, and communicating research effectively. One message brought these topics together: science communication is not just about sharing results. It is also about understanding patients’ needs, listening to their perspectives and making sure research can make a difference to their lives.
💡 In their closing reflections, Per Anders Sandström highlighted the importance of understanding patients’ needs and involving them throughout the research process. Chiara Gabbi offered a more personal perspective, encouraging researchers and clinicians to return to their patients whenever they need to reconnect with their motivation. As she reflected, patients can teach us not only about their experiences, but also about how to live. Claudio Lombardo also emphasised the importance of investing in the next generation of oncology professionals, who will help shape the future of cancer research and care.
