Myeloma Patients Europe

Myeloma Patients Europe Myeloma Patients Europe is an umbrella organisation of myeloma and AL amyloidosis patient groups

Myeloma Patients Europe (MPE) is an umbrella organisation of myeloma patient groups and associations from across Europe. MPE was formed following the merger in 2011 of the European Myeloma Platform and Myeloma Euronet. MPE is registered as a non-profit organisation (AISBL) under Belgian law and its headquarter is located in Brussels. MPE has a number of broad aims including:
• Collaborating on pro

jects to the benefit of the myeloma community
• Exchanging information and best practice
• Developing existing patient groups and encouraging and facilitating the setting up of new groups
• Helping to shape appropriate health- related policies and initiatives on a European and national level
• Ensuring patients across Europe receive timely access to new treatment
• Stimulating and promoting patient- centred research and clinical trials
• Developing a strong evidence base for the needs and wants of patients and their role in research
• Providing information, educational and outreach programmes to member groups

To meet its aims and in addition to its membership, MPE works directly with healthcare professionals, reimbursement authorities, regulators, politicians, pharmaceutical companies, the media and anyone involved in the ‘myeloma community’.

A big thank you to all the patient advocates, researchers, clinicians and partners who helped make so valuable and successful.

Over the last few days we attended myeloma scientific sessions, EHA committee meetings, access sessions, sponsor meetings, advisory boards and conducted training with myeloma advocates through the MPE Advocate Development Programme.

We also had the opportunity to present MPE's own patient centred research on access, the real-world experiences of family carers and again highlight the importance of Shared Decision Making.

Our heads and notebooks are full with learnings and ideas on what MPE and our community can continue to do to improve treatment, access and quality of life for patients and their families.

Don't forget to head to our YouTube channel to watch our exclusive interviews with leading clinicians from the congress, bringing the latest myeloma science closer to patients and communities across Europe.

And you can also join us for our EHA highlights webinar on 30 June at 17:00 CET, where Dr Johan Lund will take time to reflect on and break down the key research from the congress.

The SUCCESSOR-2 trial results evaluating mezigdomide, carfilzomib and dexamethasone (mezikd) vs carfilzomib and dexamethasone (kd) in relapsed/refractory myeloma have been presented at

We interviewed Dr. Alberto Orial earlier at the conference about mezigdomide and what the findings of this trial could mean for patients.

Mezigdomide together with carfilzomib and dexamethasone demonstrated a reduced risk of disease progression or death by 52% compared to carfilzomib + dexamethasone in relapsed and/or refractory myeloma patients previously exposed or refractory to CD38 antibodies and lenalidomide

MPE's Head of Patient Research Eilidh Duncan presented data this morning at showing a clear gap between how involved patients want to be in treatment decisions and how involved they actually are. 17% of patients reported no involvement at all in shared decision-making at diagnosis.

Patients want to be more involved.

As promised earlier, the results of the EMN34 clinical trial assessing safety and efficacacy of elranatamab as early intervention in patients with high-risk smoldering myeloma were just presented by Dr. Cyrille Touzeau. MPE interviewed him earlier to understand the impact these results can have for patients.

Day 1 at done!

A packed opening day for us. MPE attended the EHA-Patient Joint Symposium, covering the EU HTA regulation and the role of patient experience data in medicine approvals. Both topics sit at the heart of MPE's advocacy work. We also had productive meetings with several industry partners and filmed expert interviews to keep the patient community updated on the latest myeloma and AL amyloidosis data. Stay tuned for more tomorrow!
