Catching or not catching? 🧘‍♂️

At the end of the Ashtanga series, after dropbacks or tic-tocs (depending on your practice), there is sometimes a moment where students “catch” their ankles, calves, or even knees — depending on their flexibility.

When I practiced Mysore with Sharathji Jois, there was always a lot of attention on whether people caught or not. And of course, catching for the first time can feel like a big milestone.

But sometimes I felt it could become a bit forced.

In my own practice, I don’t focus on catching anymore. I only do it when practicing with a teacher I trust and when my body feels open and ready.

At the end of the day, catching is not the goal. The practice is. What is your view on it?
