We are proud to share free access to the article titled "Between demographic targets and personal desire: lived experiences of infertility", co-authored by our Chair, Maciej Smiechowski, and our Advocacy Manager, Anita Fincham.

Infertility affects around 1 in 6 people globally, yet access to fertility care remains deeply unequal across countries and communities. This article explores why fertility treatment should be understood not just as medical care, but as a matter of reproductive rights, autonomy, and dignity.

It highlights persistent disparities in access, funding, and eligibility, alongside the emotional, financial, and social burdens faced by individuals navigating infertility.

Fertility Europe was at the European Parliament yesterday for „Health at a Crossroads: Active Aging, Prevention & Demographic Resilience” and Advocacy Manager Anita Fincham made the case for a rights-based approach to Europe’s demographic future.

Demographic resilience is a health equity problem. From fertility access to cancer care to healthy aging - patients need to be central to the policy response.

Thanks to MEP Gabriela Firea, FEMM Chair Lina Gálvez, and all speakers for a substantive conversation.

Infertility, treatment and work rarely get talked about in the same breath. Yet the reality for millions of people across Europe is that they are navigating hormone injections, last-minute clinical appointments, and the emotional weight of hope and uncertainty, all while trying to show up, perform, and not let anything show at work.

If you are based in Europe, in employment, and going through - or have you been through fertility treatment, there is a European survey waiting for your voice. Link in comments.

Male infertility is too often treated as a private burden rather than a public health issue.
We are pleased to share that our review chapter in Endocrinology of the Te**is and Male Reproduction has now been published - thanks to the excellent work and collaboration of our present and past Chairs, Maciej Smiechowski and Klaudija Kordic, and our Advocacy Manager, Anita Fincham.

In this chapter, we explore male infertility not only as a biomedical condition but as a socially constructed illness shaped by cultural norms, stigma, and gender expectations. Masculinity remains strongly tied to reproductive success, which often leaves affected men facing silence, isolation, emotional distress, and reluctance to seek help.

Our review brings together interdisciplinary perspectives, including sociocultural analyses and ethnographic case studies, to examine:

• the invisibility of male infertility in healthcare and public discourse
• global patterns of stigma and silence surrounding male-factor infertility
• the need for culturally sensitive and equitable healthcare approaches
• the importance of advancing research and medical management focused on male infertility itself, reducing the disproportionate burden currently placed on female partners.
