Reflection of an Embroidery
Today I return to my grandmother’s house.
I return to the girl who skated clumsily, who fell more than she moved forward.
And I also return to the blood that arrived for the first time.
To the bathroom. To the wet underwear. To the fear.
I remember her anger.
I remember how she told everyone as if I had done something wrong.
And I remember how I believed it.
Today I unpick that memory.
I heal the shame that was stored in my heart.
Skating did not make me menstruate.
Menstruation is not a mistake.
It is cycle, it is life, it is body.
Today I name myself a menstrual educator.
I love myself for running, jumping, skating, and sleeping without fear.
I love myself for saying out loud: I menstruate.
Without guilt.
Without silence.
Without shame.
My cycle is mine.
And I honor it.
