Kiss of the moon
Last week I stood outside with a bottle I didn’t plan on drinking. It was a gift, grabbed on my way out the door without a second thought. Only once I got there did I read the label: Bacio di Luna. Kiss of the moon. I hadn’t planned that.
That’s kind of how the eclipse works too — sun and moon lining up, no ceremony required, just physics doing what physics does. A solar eclipse only happens at new moon. A lunar eclipse only at full moon. It’s completely logical when you understand the mechanics. And somehow that makes it more magical, not less.
I know the discourse around eclipses gets tired — too hyped, too commercial, people rolling their eyes at anyone reaching for the cardboard glasses. Fair. I roll my eyes at the circus too. But I can hold both: unimpressed by the noise, and still floored by the thing itself.
Because underneath it all, it’s just opposites, doing what opposites do. Light and shadow. Masculine and feminine. Rational and emotional. I’ve spent a long time trying to resolve my inner conflicts. An eclipse reminds me, every time, that there’s nothing to resolve — only to embrace.
So — meditate, or celebrate? I brought a glass instead of an answer.
