Today’s prescription: curiosity.

Spotted this strange beauty at the market — ripe bitter melon (Momordica charantia). When fully ripe, it turns yellow-orange, splits open and reveals brilliant red-coated seeds.
A fascinating fruit with a long history of use as both food and traditional medicine across Asia.
Behind its rather dramatic appearance and unmistakably bitter taste is some interesting science. Bitter melon contains bioactive compounds including charantin, polypeptide-p and polyphenols, and has been studied particularly for its potential effects on glucose metabolism and insulin sensitivity. Human research is still mixed, though, so think interesting food — not a replacement for medical treatment.
But today’s prescription isn’t actually bitter melon. 😉 It’s trying something new.
Novel experiences make the brain pay attention, learn and adapt — giving those pathways involved in neuroplasticity a little workout. 🧠

’s prescription comes with no capsules, powders or complicated protocols.
Just walk.
Walk to breakfast.
Walk to the market.
Walk because you took the wrong street.
Walk another kilometre because Google Maps said “7 minutes.” 😂
And walk because the best parts of a city are often the ones you never planned to find.
But all those holiday kilometres are doing more than justifying dessert.
Your calves are sometimes called a “second heart.”
Every step activates the calf-muscle pump, helping push venous blood from the legs back toward the heart. Your circulation rather likes it when you don't spend the entire day in a chair.
Uneven ground gives your nervous system extra work.
Cobblestones, slopes and stairs constantly challenge proprioception. Your feet, ankles, vision and vestibular system are continuously sending information to the brain so it can make tiny adjustments to balance and posture.
Research has found that walking can boost certain measures of creative thinking compared with sitting. Perhaps that's why some of our best ideas arrive when we're not trying quite so hard to have them.
And then there’s the benefit no smartwatch can properly measure:
exploration, curiosity, fresh air, noticing things, getting slightly lost… and discovering a tiny café you absolutely weren't looking for.

Good-quality fish and seafood can be surprisingly difficult to find — so when I’m close to the source, I always take the opportunity to enjoy them as fresh and local as possible.
Smaller fish can be nutritional powerhouses. Sardines, anchovies and other small oily fish can be excellent sources of marine omega-3 while generally accumulating less mercury, plastics and other nasties than larger, long-lived predatory fish.
And you're getting much more than omega-3. Fsh and seafood can also provide selenium, iodine, zinc, B12 and high-quality protein.
But quality matters. Origin, species, freshness, handling and environmental contamination all deserve consideration. “Fish is healthy” is simply too broad — where it came from and what fish you choose matter too.
💡 Did you know? DHA (docosahexaenoic acid), one of the main omega-3 fatty acids found in fish and seafood, is highly concentrated in the retina of the eye. It forms an important part of the membranes of our photoreceptors — the cells that convert light into the signals that allow us to see.
Omega-3 from fish and seafood can influence the flexibility and fluidity of our cell membranes. EPA and DHA become incorporated into the membrane itself, helping create the physical environment in which receptors, enzymes and cellular signalling operate.
In other words, the fats you eat can literally become part of your cells.

II am not a morning person. So if I’m voluntarily awake early enough to watch the sun come up, there had better be a very good reason.
Turns out, there is. ☀️
We tend to think of sleep as something we deal with at night. But part of the preparation for tonight’s sleep begins with the light your eyes receive in the morning.
Morning light is one of the strongest environmental signals for your circadian rhythm — the internal 24-hour timing system that helps coordinate sleep, wakefulness, hormones, body temperature and many other daily rhythms.
Specialised cells in the retina detect light and send that information directly to the brain’s master clock. In response to morning light, melatonin is suppressed and the body gets a clear message:
The biological day has begun. #
