💧 Persistent drooling is more than just “extra saliva.”
When drooling continues beyond the expected developmental age, it may indicate difficulties with oral motor control, muscle coordination, sensory regulation, or speech-related muscle functioning.

Speech production depends on the smooth coordination of the: 👄 Lips
👅 Tongue
🦷 Jaw
💨 Breathing and swallowing muscles

Children who experience persistent drooling may have difficulty managing saliva because the muscles responsible for swallowing, lip closure, tongue movement, and facial stability are not yet working efficiently together. These same muscles are also essential for developing clear speech sounds, feeding skills, chewing, and overall communication abilities.

While drooling can be common during infancy and teething stages, long-term or excessive drooling should not be ignored, especially when accompanied by: ▫️ Delayed speech development
▫️ Difficulty chewing or swallowing
▫️ Open-mouth posture
▫️ Poor lip closure
▫️ Reduced oral awareness
▫️ Unclear speech sounds
▫️ Weak oral muscle coordination

Early identification and intervention can make a significant difference. Through specialized therapy approaches focusing on oral motor skills, sensory integration, feeding support, and speech-language development, children can improve both saliva control and communication skills over time. 🌈
