This beautiful young lady came to us with a purely cosmetic request her goal was to refine the aesthetics of her nose while maintaining harmony with her facial features.
Her rhinoplasty involved:
• Open structural rhinoplasty • Rib cartilage harvest • Extended spreader grafts along the dorsal septum • Radix and dorsal augmentation • Septal extension graft for tip support and refinement • SMAS defatting to improve tip definition • Alar base reduction to refine the nasal base
The aim was never to create a “different” nose, but rather a more refined, balanced nose that remains harmonious with the rest of her face.

Yesterday, four young ladies braved the 6°C weather to join us in theatre. 🥶🩺✨

And how fitting that this happens during Women’s Month. There was something particularly special about watching these young women step into theatre, curious, enthusiastic and eager to learn.

Perhaps a small moment, but a beautiful testament to the strength, courage and promise of women; those who came before us, those of us here now, and the young women who will follow.

Four future surgeons, perhaps? 👩🏾‍⚕️✨
At 6°C it may have been freezing outside, but the future of women in surgery is looking very bright. 💛

Former Registrars Pass Their Exams… Become Consultants. 🎉

Somehow they still show up in my theatre—only now it’s to showcase the skill set they’ve acquired over years of training and to remind me that they can definitely hold their own.

That’s mentorship coming full circle: yesterday’s trainees are today’s colleagues.

Congratulations, Consultants! You’ve earned every bit of it. 🩺👏🎓

Travelling through Portugal with a football-obsessed husband is not a holiday. It is an away fixture. 🇵🇹⚽️😂
You think you’re going sightseeing. He thinks you’re scouting bars with televisions.
I eventually find him in some tiny viewing lounge, fully camouflaged among strangers, emotionally committed to a match between countries he has no passport, ancestry, or business supporting.
Our itinerary now reads:
Castle — if no kick-off. Cathedral — only during half-time. Dinner — pending penalties.
I came to Portugal for culture. This man came to audit their sports-bar infrastructure.

Days 2 & 3 in Lisbon 🇵🇹: world-class rhinoplasty, international brilliance… and a rapidly deteriorating relationship with sleep. 😂👃🏽🌍
European Academy🇪🇺 set the academic bar high, Korean Academy 🇰🇷 delivered beautifully nuanced surgical techniques, and Mexico 🇲🇽 took us so deep into anatomy that some of us quietly reconsidered whether we had ever truly understood the nose. 😂
The Pan-Asian Academy 🌏 kept the pressure on before Indian Academy 🇮🇳 simply blew us out of the water. If this was merely a preview of Global Masters India 2027 🇮🇳, we have been duly warned. 🔥
Taiwan 🇹🇼 brought technology and endonasal rhinoplasty, elegantly suggesting that while the rest of us discuss the future, they may already be operating in it. 🤖👃🏽
Sadly, Venezuela 🇻🇪 could not join us following the earthquake. They were deeply missed, and our thoughts remain with them. 🙏🏽❤️
Meanwhile, Portugal 🇵🇹 had won the night before ⚽️🔥, Lisbon celebrated accordingly, and sleep became largely theoretical. Yet everyone arrived the next morning polished, prepared and academically formidable. That protocol deserves publication. 😂☕️
A glorious gala dinner cruise 🛥️🥂 carried us into the early hours, before Day 3 returned with no sympathy: heavyweight science, exceptional experts and intellectual exchange at the highest level. 🧠🔥
Many nations. One nose. Very little sleep.
Lisbon 🇵🇹 ,we came to exchange rhinoplasty knowledge and left with full notebooks, expanded minds, new friendships and sleep debt of international significance. 😂👃🏽🌍

Congress Day 1 Recap 🇵🇹☀️
Day 1 is officially in the books!
We arrived thinking we were absolutely blazing hot… turns out it was just Estoril casually turning up the thermostat to 42°C. 🔥
A huge shout-out to the organising team; registration was open and running like clockwork from 06:30, and the audiovisual team had me presentation ready in no time.
By 07:30, Team South Africa was on stage, and we did what South Africans do best—we kicked things off with energy, enthusiasm, and just enough banter to wake everyone up.
Speaking of banter… the football World Cup rivalry definitely made its way into the congress. Team Canada may have delivered outstanding presentations, but we’re still not quite over that World Cup result. 😅 Safe to say we’re still “processing” it! The Ecuador–Mexico exchanges were equally entertaining, Brazil arrived with the confidence of a team expecting to win everything, Colombia brought incredible energy, Chile represented proudly, and we wrapped up the day with excellent presentations from the Ecuadorian Academy.
The Americans followed the South African session with some absolute heavyweights, raising the bar even higher and adding plenty of flair to the discussions. ASEAN delivered stellar presentations, and the Australasian Academy certainly wasn’t about to be outdone. Every session seemed to build on the last, making for an incredible international showcase of expertise.
The congress has truly gotten off to a phenomenal start. Outstanding attendance, impeccable organisation, lively discussions, and scientific content of the highest calibre.
I’m still trying to process just how much I learnt today. The sheer volume of knowledge, experience and innovation shared in a single day is almost impossible to comprehend. If Day 1 is anything to go by, the rest of this congress is going to be something very special.
Here’s to Day 2! 🇿🇦🌍

What a journey! 😅 Missed the connecting flight ✔️ Lost luggage ✔️ Ran on fumes ✔️ …but we finally made it to Portugal! 🇵🇹
After a few unexpected travel plot twists, it’s time to swap airport terminals for conference halls. Looking forward to presenting tomorrow!!!!!

The debate around technology in the classroom continues to grow. Some educators believe technology enhances learning, improves engagement, and prepares learners for a digital future. Others are concerned about distractions, reduced critical thinking, screen fatigue, and the widening gap between learners with and without access to technology.
