What if the pelvic floor is not the only “floor” we need to think about?
We often speak about the pelvic floor in relation to breathing, pressure regulation and trunk stability. But what about the shoulder girdle?
I like to think of the underarm, the axillary region, as a floor for the shoulder girdle.
Not a place to grip or hold, but a place from which the arms can be supported, connected and free to move.
And then an interesting question arises:
How does the floor of the shoulder girdle communicate with the pelvic floor?
Through the rib cage. Through the diaphragm. Through pressure. Through breath. Through the organization of the trunk and the movement of the spine.
The body does not organize itself in isolated pieces. A change in one region recruits and reverberates through the whole.
This is where stability becomes dynamic.
Not fixing the body in place, but creating the conditions from which movement can emerge with support, adaptability and freedom.
This is part of what we explore experientially in GYROTONIC® Principles Applied to Dynamic Trunk Stabilization.
