Our new publication on endometriosis involving the lateral pelvic compartment.
This is a critically important topic, as lateral pelvic compartment disease often reflects a more severe form of endometriosis, with a higher risk of ureteral, vascular and neural involvement. These complex cases typically require a multidisciplinary approach for optimal evaluation and management. A beautiful team effort!

Could pelvic varicose veins be the hidden cause of chronic pelvic pain?

Chronic pelvic pain affects millions of women, yet pelvic venous disorders remain underrecognized and frequently overlooked.
Our new review article, now available, highlights the essential role of transvaginal ultrasound in evaluating pelvic venous disease. Beyond identifying pelvic varices, US provides a dynamic assessment of venous reflux and pelvic venous insufficiency, helping clinicians reach a more accurate diagnosis and guide appropriate treatment.

In this review, we discuss:
🔹 Pelvic venous anatomy
🔹 Pathophysiology of pelvic venous disorders
🔹 Clinical presentation
🔹 Key ultrasound findings
🔹 A practical imaging approach with illustrative cases

Recognizing pelvic venous disease is an important step toward improving the care of women living with chronic pelvic pain. It is also an essential differential diagnosis of endometriosis, as both conditions may present with similar symptoms but require different management strategies. 17 years old. Severe dysmenorrhea.

Dedicated Pelvic MRI revealed bilateral thickening of the uterosacral ligaments extending to their vertical portion, consistent with deep endometriosis.

Severe menstrual pain in adolescents should never be considered “normal.” Early recognition and expert imaging can shorten the diagnostic delay and change the course of the disease.

Today I had the pleasure of visiting my dear friend, abdominal radiologist at Massachusetts General Hospital, and seeing the hospital’s remarkable facilities. I also had the opportunity to explore the original building, whose history is intertwined with numerous milestones in medicine, as well as the famous radiology reading room and meet one of the legends of abdominal radiology, Mukesh Harisinghani !
