My son is in the final weeks of deciding which university he will attend next year. He has been blessed with several excellent choices but with that blessing comes the difficulty of making a decision. We all have our own strategies when it comes to decision making and with mindfulness we can see the patterns that arise from those decisions. His process and our attempts to help guide him reminded me of this saying:

📸Life is like a Camera:
🌟Just focus on what is important
🌟Capture the good times
🌟Develop from the negative
and if things don’t work out
🌟Take another shot

On the mat I reminded students that they are taking their own “photos” and with that they have the power to focus on what is important (and what is not), to experience the positives in what they are doing in their bodies and minds, to develop strength and resilience from the physical challenges and to continue to practice.

Off the mat our mindfulness practice helps us remember what is important so we can prioritize and focus on those things, be more connected to the good in our lives, learn from our challenges, keep trying new things and continue to grow from what we have learned.

Whether it is big decisions (like college) or smaller everyday type ones, making mindful decisions is the Key to Happiness. I know this to be true so fully that it was my inspiration for developing my KLARITY Mindsette Mindfulness program and it is what I share on my RETREATS. 🇲🇦MOROCCO is SOLD OUT! 🇧🇿BELIZE is FILLING UP.

I can’t believe we are just ✨six months away✨ from my KLARITY Mindsette RESET in 🇲🇦 MOROCCO. .

When I was twelve my family traveled to Morocco and it was the most incredible, magical place I had ever seen.

Now so many years later I cannot wait to be there once again leading a fantastic group through an amazing cultural and spiritual experience.

If someone had told twelve year old me that I would one day lead yoga and mindfulness retreats all over the world, meet the most special people while seeing incredible places I do not think I would have believed it.
🙏This life is truly amazing.

There is ONE SPOT LEFT to join me on this life changing journey. Is it yours?

My son is soon graduating from high school and heading off to college. Coupled with the excitement about this next chapter, there is uncertainty and questions as he finalizes this big decision and prepares for this huge life change.

As we ride these waves I find myself vacillating between wanting to rush through this uncertainty and wanting to pause right here and stop time. I even find myself sometimes wishing I could go back to when my children were younger. These emotions reminded me of a story called ✨The Magic Thread✨

It’s a story of a boy named Peter who is bored and restless and in a rush to get older and be an adult. He is given a special power to move time along faster by pulling a magic thread. He pulls the thread to avoid difficulty, to satisfy his impatience, to rush through the chaos of raising children and the suffering of his wife’s illnesses. Then he sees the conundrum; that rushing through doesn’t actually solve anything. In fact it just rushed him closer to death without any of the joys that came with the struggles. At the end of his life he realizes that while he didn’t ever have to suffer he also missed out on lots of joy. He asks to go back and redo his life without the magic thread; to experience the difficulties and struggles along with the joy.

We all have that tendency to “pull the magic thread” and rush through or avoid life’s uncertain or difficult moments. Committing to the practice helps us to “not pull the magic thread”. Whether it is just a few moments of meditation, stepping on your mat for a physical practice or anything else that allows you to be fully present, this is the practice of presence and practice makes perfect practice!!

Last weekend I was struggling with disappointment over the behavior of a few folks. It is often in these situations that I notice my feelings swirling around the patterns of the past and this makes it difficult to gain the valuable perspective to be mindful.

I found this reminder, a mantra of sorts that I had written out for myself several years ago There is a tendency to shut down or fight when we feel hurt or angry but the practice reminds us to lean in and be with what we are feeling. It is only in seeing and being with the waves of thoughts and emotions and processing the outward ripples that the tide turns and the ocean settles.

🌟When we Practice we accept the limitations of both ourselves and others.

🌟When we Practice we begin to understand the complex patchwork that are our emotions and our beliefs.

🌟When we Practice we learn how to connect to the Sacred Pause; the moment that changes reaction into mindful action.

🌟When we Practice we learn through patience and commitment not to expect extreme changes from one day to the next, rather small changes over time bring us to a place of growth.

🌟When we Practice we begin to find acceptance in the not knowing, in the moments of discomfort, in the times we are pushed outside of our comfort zone.

🌟When we Practice we learn that this discomfort is the only way we truly grow.

What has become clear to me is how much of an evolution this practice is. The tiny shifts are almost imperceivable most of the time and we likely revert back in moments. However those moments prepare us to spring forward into more powerful, insightful, effective and peaceful versions of ourselves.

✨TWO RETREATS TO CHOOSE: Morocco; Aug 2026 & BELIZE Feb 27. All details in link in my bio.✨

Most of us can relate to the heaviness when others around us are suffering. The practice of mindfulness teaches us many strategies for learning how to hold others pain lightly in an effort to be of service to both them and yourself. This is, of course, often understood in theory but difficult to deploy in practice which is why it is called just that... a practice. As I sought guidance on this topic myself I went where I often go, to my trusted books of inspiration, and here is an excerpt from what one that became by message for last week:

✨Allowing Pain In, Mark Nepo✨

I am becoming water:
I let everything rinse its grief in me and reflect as much light as I can

Another paradox I continually struggle with is how to let others in without becoming them. How to open the door of compassion without the things and people we feel for overpowering us.
It goes as far back as Jesus and Buddha, and the miracle of such spirits is that they show us that there is some basic clear element in each of us, like water, which can glow without a name, which can allow the pain and grief of others in without turning us into just pain and grief. ✨

Both on the mat and off we practiced connecting to our water element. Water is both strong and flexible, powerful and resilient. It can be soft at times like a gentle stream, and at other moments overtake anything. Water picks up all kinds of things on its journey but leaves behind what it doesn’t need in order to continue on its path; and the entire time it is reflecting back the light of the sun or moon.

Water is one of the strongest forces on earth and it yields its power at times. Yet it can also be a source of great solace and calm. Within water lies the beautiful balance between strength and ease; the balance we look to attain on the mat in our bodies and in our hearts and minds as well.

The picture above always makes me laugh because 2 seconds after it was taken that wave came in and washed me out! It was a humbling reminder of the both the beauty and the power of this force of nature.
