Most people think a pushup is just a chest exercise.
As a therapist, I see so much more.
When you're doing a pushup, I'm thinking:
👉 Are your shoulders rolling forward?
👉 Is your head sticking out like you're reading a text message?
👉 Are your shoulder blades moving properly?
👉 Is your core engaged or is your lower back sagging?
👉 Are your hips dropping or hiking up?
👉 Is one side working harder than the other?
A pushup can tell me a lot about your body.
Sometimes shoulder pain isn't coming from the shoulder.
Sometimes neck pain isn't coming from the neck.
It could be:
• Tight chest muscles
• Weak upper back muscles
• Poor shoulder stability
• Core weakness
• Compensation patterns that have been there for years
This is why assessment matters.
I don't just look at where it hurts.
I look at how you move.
Because movement tells a story, and your body always leaves clues.
So the next time you're doing pushups and someone says, "That looks good," remember...
Your therapist is probably seeing 10 things you don't even realize you're doing. 😅💪🏾
