Public Hospitals Authority The Public Hospitals Authority is one of the best healthcare systems in the Caribbean, managing public hospitals and supporting agencies in the Bahamas.

The Public Hospitals Authority is recognized as one of the best healthcare systems in the Caribbean, earning praise for being the provider and employer of choice for the people that live and visit The Bahamas. To improve communication with our internal and external clients, our dynamic, new organization-wide page. The Public Hospitals Authority (PHA) was established in July 1999 by an Act

of Parliament (1998) as a public corporation responsible for the management and development of the public hospital system in the Commonwealth of The Bahamas. By virtue of this Act, the PHA was vested with the powers, rights, privileges and ownership, of all land, buildings, movable property and undertakings of the hospitals that were previously held by the government. There are three (3) such institutions, namely:

Princess Margaret Hospital (PMH)
Sandilands Rehabilitation Centre (SRC); and
Rand Memorial Hospital (RAND)
In addition to its mandate for public hospitals, the PHA is also charged, under the delegated authority of the Minister of Health, with responsibilities for the management and development of four (4) other areas of the public sector health services system, namely:

National Emergency Medical Services (NEMS)
Bahamas National Drug Agency (BNDA)
Materials Management Directorate (MMD)
The Community Health Services in Grand Bahama, which together with the Rand Hospital encompasses the Local Health System known as the Grand Bahama Health Services (GBHS).

For Immediate Release:

The Public Hospitals Authority (PHA), Princess Margaret Hospital (PMH) are aware of a
video showing a rodent within the hospital and sincerely apologize to patients, staff,
visitors, and the public for the concern caused.
Immediate and ongoing pest-control, sanitation, and environmental inspections are
being carried out. PHA and PMH are also working closely with the Ministry of
Environmental Health to support additional assessment and mitigation measures.
Initial reviews have identified potential entry points associated in part with ongoing
construction activity, where some areas were temporarily exposed. These areas are
being secured and corrective measures are being implemented, alongside
increased monitoring of the affected and surrounding areas.
The PHA takes this matter seriously and remains committed to maintaining a safe,
clean, and well-maintained healthcare environment for all patients, staff, and
visitors.
