Country Representative and Director WFP Bhutan, Mr. Peter Rodrigues called upon Honorable Prime Minister of Bhutan His Excellency Dasho Tshering Tobgay this morning to talk about WFPโs ongoing support in agriculture and food security, nutrition, and emergency preparedness and respond.
In partnership with the government, corporate, national civil society organizations and private sector, WFP is making increased focus on the key priority areas:
I. Plans to upgrade school kitchen and storage facilities to ensure schoolchildren in both government and monastic institution receive healthy and meals are in advanced stage.
II. Investment plans, value addition training, market linkages support, and supply chain coordination are helping farmers invest in high value agricultural production.
III. agriculture interventions increase access to diverse foods and encouraging families and communities to consume healthy and nutritious foods.
IV. Critical infrastructure and essential service providers in all districts were mapped, response time and ensuring people affected receive required support during emergencies.
The meeting also explored opportunities to deepen partnerships to enhance country capacities in building sustainable food systems and to increase productivity and income of smallholder farmers in Bhutan.
