This is to inform graduates of Allied Health Sciences from colleges and universities outside Bhutan that the Khesar Gyalpo University of Medical Sciences of Bhutan (KGUMSB) will no longer be able to accommodate additional requests for internship programs.

This decision is made in response to a significant increase in the number of internship requests, coupled with limited training capacity and limited space available at Jigme Dorji Wangchuck National Referral Hospital (JDWNRH).

KGUMSB appreciates the interest shown by graduates in its internship program and regrets any inconvenience this decision may cause.

The Arthroplasty team at Jigme Dorji Wangchuck National Referral Hospital (JDWNRH), led by Dr. Gem Dorjiee and Dr. Kuenzang Wangdi, will be conducting a four-day Total Knee Replacement Camp to address the growing demand for knee replacement surgeries in Bhutan.

This initiative aims to significantly reduce the long waiting list of patients requiring total knee arthroplasty while ensuring timely access to quality orthopedic care. By performing more surgeries locally, the camp will also help minimize the need for costly overseas referrals, resulting in substantial savings for both patients and the healthcare system.

The camp reflects the hospitalโ€™s commitment to strengthening specialized surgical services and improving patient outcomes through efficient use of local expertise and resources. Patients suffering from severe knee arthritis will benefit from earlier intervention, improved mobility, pain relief, and a better quality of life, while contributing to the long-term sustainability of orthopedic services in the country.
