Confidentiality is one of the most important facets of counselling. Information shared during a counselling session and the identity of any client assisted by the counsellor is not supposed to be disclosed to a third party without their written consent.
Confidentiality can only be disclosed to a third party in instances where:
-There is imminent danger to the client’s life or another person’s
life.
-A child’s rights are being violated.
-The counsellor is subpoenaed in a court of law.
