Botswana Vaccine Institute (BVI) was pleased to be part of the courtesy call between Botswana’s Minister of Lands and Agriculture, Hon. Dr. Edwin Dikoloti, and Lesotho’s Minister of Agriculture, Food Security and Nutrition, Hon. Selibe Mochoboroane, today, aimed at strengthening agricultural cooperation between the two countries.

BVI appreciated Hon. Dr. Dikoloti’s emphasis on deepening trade relations and advancing areas of mutual interest between Botswana and Lesotho, including his confirmation that Lesotho will receive FMD Vaccines supply from Botswana through BVI by end of July 2026, with BVI further prepared to provide the necessary technical expertise.

BVI Acting Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Keabetswe Moagabo, attended the engagement, where discussions highlighted the importance of regional collaboration in animal health, vaccine supply and agricultural development.

As Botswana and Lesotho continue to strengthen cooperation in agriculture, trade and animal production, BVI remains committed to supporting regional disease control through quality-assured veterinary vaccines, technical expertise and partnerships that protect livestock, livelihoods and advance food security and trade.

Last night, BVI Veterinary Officer Dr Tshenolo Pebe and Acting Chief Commercial Officer Keenese Katisenge-Tizhani joined Kealeboga Dihutso on the Vitals Show on DUMA FM for a powerful and informative conversation on the Fit-for-Purpose BVI Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) Vaccine.

BVI unpacked, in simple and practical terms, the importance of using vaccines that are relevant to the disease challenge on the ground, including the critical role of vaccine matching in supporting effective FMD control. Without revealing the science behind BVI’s proprietary processes, the discussion helped listeners appreciate that FMD vaccine production is not a “one-size-fits-all” approach; it requires expertise, surveillance insight, quality systems and regional understanding.

As a leading and trusted veterinary vaccine manufacturer, BVI continues to stand out for its technical capability, strong quality culture, and deep understanding of FMD control needs in Botswana and the wider SADC Region. The relevance of the BVI FMD vaccine across the region reflects years of scientific experience and regional collaboration.

The conversation also reaffirmed BVI’s uncompromising position on quality, safety and effectiveness. Every vaccine released by BVI goes through strict production, Quality Assurance and Quality Control processes before it reaches the field.

BVI is committed to strengthening disease control, protecting livelihoods in Botswana, the SADC Region and beyond. The pictures here show our team on technical missions in different countries as part of our technical support ensuring production of Fit-For-Purpose products and overall service, capacity building and knowledge exchange.

Thank you to DUMA FM and the Vitals Show for creating a platform for meaningful public education on animal health.
