🩵 How the Training Works 🩵

Cogmed is a structured, coach-guided training program that helps individuals strengthen their working memory through regular cognitive exercises. It is not a generic brain game it’s a science-backed, targeted intervention designed for real-life impact.

Here’s what the process looks like at Legato:

1. Initial Consultation & Screening
Each Cogmed journey begins with a professional consultation to assess whether the program is suitable for the client’s specific needs. This involves discussing challenges with attention, memory, or cognitive performance and determining the appropriate training plan.

2. Customized Training Plan
Based on the consultation, a personalized training plan is created. Clients are assigned a version of Cogmed training plan tailored to their age, cognitive level, and goals.

3. Daily Digital Training Sessions
The program involves interactive, computer-based tasks designed to train different aspects of working memory. These sessions typically:

- Last 20 minutes

- Occur 5 times per week

- Continue for 6 weeks

The tasks are adaptive, meaning they automatically adjust in difficulty as the user progresses, ensuring the training remains appropriately challenging.

4. Progress Monitoring & Weekly Coaching
Throughout the training period, each client is paired with a certified Cogmed Coach who:

- Tracks progress using Cogmed’s analytics dashboard

- Offers weekly check-ins to provide feedback, motivation, and troubleshooting

- Adjusts training goals and provides support for better outcomes

This coaching element ensures that users remain engaged and accountable, leading to better long-term results.

5. Post-Training Evaluation & Feedback
At the end of the training, a final review is conducted. The coach assesses improvements using both subjective feedback and Cogmed’s built-in performance metrics. Clients receive a training summary report that outlines:

- Areas of improvement

- Strengthened cognitive abilities

- Recommendations for further support if needed

This month, we are focusing on working memory and how it shapes the way we learn, focus and manage everyday tasks.

Working memory is the brain’s ability to hold and use information in the moment. It plays a key role in following instructions, solving problems, staying focused and completing tasks efficiently.

When working memory is challenged, it can show up as forgetfulness, difficulty concentrating, struggling to follow multi step instructions or feeling overwhelmed during learning or work tasks.

The good news is that working memory can be supported and strengthened through structured cognitive training.

This month we will be introducing Cogmed, a research based program designed to improve attention and working memory skills over time.

💚Happy Sir Seretse Khama Day💚

At Legato Centre for Psychometric Assessment, we believe in honoring and respecting cultural observances and commemorations. We want to inform our valued clients that our clinic today , 1st July 2025, to observe Sir Seretse Khama Day.

Sir Seretse Khama Day is a significant day in Botswana's history as it honors the legacy and contributions of Sir Seretse Khama, the first President of Botswana. This day allows us to reflect on his leadership, commitment to democracy, and advocacy for social justice.

We encourage everyone to take this opportunity to pause, reflect, and engage in activities that celebrate the values of equality, unity, and progress that Sir Seretse Khama stood for. This day provides a chance to connect with loved ones, practice self-care, and embrace the diverse cultures that enrich our society.

As We Wrap Up Men's Mental Health Awareness Month

As June comes to an end, let's remember that supporting men's mental health isn't just a one-month conversation. It's something we should continue every day of the year.

Throughout this month, we've explored the importance of speaking openly about mental health, recognizing the signs that someone may be struggling, practicing self-care and challenging the myths that keep many men silent.

The conversation doesn't end here.

Let's continue to:

💙 Check in on the men in our lives.
💙 Create safe spaces for honest conversations.
💙 Encourage seeking professional support when it's needed.
💙 Replace stigma with understanding and compassion.

Every conversation matters. Every act of kindness matters. Every step toward seeking help matters.

To every man who has spoken up, reached out or taken even the smallest step toward prioritizing their mental wellbeing, we see you and we're proud of you.

Let's keep the conversation going because mental health matters every day, not just in June.

Let’s Break the Stigma: Myth vs Fact

There are many misconceptions about men’s mental health that can prevent men from seeking the support they need.

It’s time to challenge these myths and embrace the facts.

Myth: Talking about emotions is a sign of weakness.
💙Fact: Emotional awareness takes courage and can improve mental wellbeing.

Myth: Men should handle their problems alone.
💙Fact: Seeking help is a healthy and effective way to cope with life’s challenges.

Breaking the stigma starts with awareness, open conversations, and support. Every man deserves to feel heard, understood and supported.

What other myths about men’s mental health have you heard? How can we work together to change the narrative? Share your thoughts in the comments. Let’s keep the conversation going.
