The Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) performs diagnostic testing on biological specimens to support clinical decisions. This role is critical to disease detection, treatment monitoring, and public health surveillance. The MLS ensures accuracy, safety, and compliance with national and international laboratory standards.

1. Office-based within a hospital setting.
2. Requires prolonged periods of sitting, standing and computer use.
3. May involve frequent patient interaction.

1. Monday Saturday with shifts holidays
2. Working hours 7am to 7pm
3. Overtime approval is given if the MLS needs to stay behind.

a. Collect, process, and analyze specimens (blood, urine, tissue, etc.).
b. Perform tests in hematology, microbiology, immunology, clinical chemistry, and molecular diagnostics.
c. Operate and maintain laboratory equipment including microscopes, analyzers, and centrifuges.
d. Validate and interpret test results, ensuring accuracy and clinical relevance.
e. Prepare and issue laboratory reports to physicians and healthcare teams.
f. Monitor patient therapy through laboratory data trends.
g. Maintain laboratory information systems (Odoo) for data entry and reporting.

a. Conduct blood typing, cross-matching, and compatibility testing.
b. Screen donated blood for infectious diseases (HIV, Hepatitis B/C, Syphilis).
c. Ensure proper storage and handling of blood products.
d. Follow protocols for transfusion reactions and reporting.
e. Maintain cold chain and inventory of blood units.

a. Adhere to universal precautions and biosafety levels appropriate to specimen type.
b. Use PPE: gloves, lab coats, face shields, and masks.
c. Dispose of biohazardous waste in accordance with Ministry of Health and Wellness guidelines.
d. Participate in regular safety drills and emergency response training.
e. Maintain clean and contamination-free work spaces.
