Preventing mosquito-borne diseases is a shared responsibility. Thanks to the support of the San Pedro Town council, in promoting community participation and implementing effective public health interventions to keep the community safe.
We encourage all residents to do their part by eliminating standing water around their homes, maintaining clean surroundings and support vector control activities.

The Ministry of Health and Wellness Belize advises the public to exercise caution when traveling, particularly given the increase in measles cases reported in neighboring Guatemala, including areas within Petén Department.

Guatemala has reported a total of 5,120 confirmed cases, 4 deaths, and a case fatality rate of 0.09% in 2026.

Measles is highly contagious and can be transmitted 4 days before and 4 days after the rash appears. Individuals are encouraged to monitor for signs such as fever and rash and to seek medical attention promptly if symptoms develop.

Vaccination remains the most effective protection. Parents and guardians are urged to ensure that children are fully immunized with the MMR vaccine and that all routine immunizations are up to date. Travelers should get vaccinated at least 2 weeks before the travel date.

The Ministry continues with enhanced surveillance and to monitor the situation closely and encourages the public to remain vigilant and follow official health guidance to prevent further transmission.
