BCVI

BCVI Belize's National Eye Service Provider offering eye exams, surgery and rehabilitation.

For many Belizeans requiring advanced retinal surgery, treatment has traditionally meant travelling outside the country to Mexico or Guatemala — if they could afford to go at all.

In 2023, BCVI set out to change that with Dr Zac Koshy and Dr Lennox Webb.

Through the commitment of our visiting vitreoretinal specialists and an incredible network of partners, we have continued to build access to vitrectomy surgery right here in Belize.

This week, that partnership came together once again as nearly 20 patients received the specialized care they needed — at home, surrounded by family and within a health system they know and trust.

We are especially grateful to Bausch + Lomb for their generous donation of vitrectomy packs for this surgical programme. Their support allowed us to extend care to more patients and is a powerful reminder of what partnership can mean in a small country: not simply donated supplies, but access to treatment that can change the course of someone's life.

To our visiting surgeons, our BCVI clinical team, Bausch + Lomb, Ayr Hospital Scotland, Fiona's Eye Fund and every partner who has helped us develop and sustain this programme since 2023 — thank you for believing that advanced eye care should be accessible to Belizeans here at home.

And to our patients who place their sight and their trust in our hands, thank you. You are the reason we continue to push the boundaries of what eye care in Belize can be.

Specialized eye care. Closer to home. Made possible through partnership.

Today, we said goodbye to someone who was so much more than a friend, advocate or former Board Member to BCVI. Milagro was family.

For more than two decades, she was woven into the life of our organization — first as a devoted mother determined to ensure the very best for her son, and later as a valued member of our Board of Directors. Over the years, the relationship grew far beyond services, meetings or advocacy. We celebrated together, faced challenges together, laughed together, and simply became family.

Milagro was a force. She loved fiercely, advocated fearlessly and gave so much of herself to others. What began with advocating for her own child became a much larger calling — standing up for children, persons with disabilities and families across Belize who needed a voice.

Those of us at BCVI were fortunate to know the woman behind that powerful voice — warm, funny, genuine, caring and always willing to show up. Her presence became so familiar that it is difficult to imagine our BCVI family without her in it.

Her loss hurts deeply.

To Joe, Aesha and Rowan, we share not only our condolences, but our grief. We are incredibly grateful that for so many years, you shared Milagro with us too.

Her name, Milagro, means “miracle.” And perhaps her greatest legacy is that pieces of that miracle now live on in all the people whose lives are better because she cared enough to fight for them.

Thank you, Milagro, for your love, your voice, your laughter and your fight. You will always, always be part of the BCVI family. 🤍

Learning, exploring and building skills for the future! 💙💰✨

A few of our clients joined Belize’s first-ever Financial Expo for Children this weekend — and we loved seeing them be part of the experience!

Thank you to MoneyTykes for thinking of us and ensuring that their space is inclusive ... because financial confidence, independence and opportunity should be accessible to every young person.

SLT laser treatment is now being provided at BCVI’s Punta Gorda clinic, bringing an important glaucoma treatment option directly to patients in Belize’s southernmost district.

This is what accessible eye care looks like: meeting patients where they are and continuing to expand the services available in the communities we serve.

One clinic, one patient, one community at a time—we’re working to protect sight across Belize. 🇧🇿👁️

One of the biggest highlights of our 2026 BCVI Summer Camp was an unforgettable morning at the Ramada by Wyndham Princess Hotel Belize City Cinema! 🍿✨

More than 60 BCVI campers, volunteers, and staff were welcomed for a private movie screening, where every detail—from the warm hospitality to the treats enjoyed throughout the afternoon—helped make the experience truly special.

BCVIs programme focuses on building confidence, fostering independence, creating lifelong friendships, and curating moments that remind every child they belong.

Experiences like these are only possible because our community continues to believe in inclusion. We are incredibly grateful to the Ramada Princess Cinema for their generosity and for continuing to help our campers feel welcomed, valued, and celebrated.

Thank you for giving our children a day filled with laughter, excitement, and memories they'll treasure for years to come ... and thank you to Hipolito Novelo and News 5 Belize for believing in and for highlighting these beautiful moments 💙
