Let's use an example from this press release.

Misinformation often takes credible sources and references them out of context. The reason behind the recommendation cited in bold is not because RT-PCR is inaccurate. The recommendation is to improve efficiency, and to differentiate between SARS-CoV-2 and Influenza viruses. RT-PCR for COVID-19 diagnosis is slowly being replaced by more sophisticated and accurate molecular tests. If you just continue reading the cited article, the CDC โ€œencourages laboratories to consider adoption of a multiplexed method that can facilitate detection and differentiation of SARS CoV-2 and influenza viruses.โ€ It is worth underlining that the reason for the recommended change is NOT due to diagnostic inaccuracy. Moreover, the USA guidelines should not be influencing the protocols of developing nations with limited access to new technology. Look to the WHO for this type of advice.
