If you just continue reading the cited article, the CDC โencourages laboratories to consider adoption of a multiplexed method that can facilitate detection and differentiation of SARS CoV-2 and influenza viruses.โ It is worth underlining that the reason for the recommended change is NOT due to diagnostic inaccuracy. Moreover, the USA guidelines should not be influencing the protocols of developing nations with limited access to new technology. Look to the WHO for this type of advice.
