Hi Friends,
I recently realized that although I've owned Zen Belize for the past 12 years, I've never really taken the opportunity to properly introduce myself.
I'm Tara! This year marks my 16th year living in Belize. I first arrived in Cayo, Belize, where my mom lived for over 20 years. My mother, Dr. Winsom Winsom , is a lifelong artist whose paintings, textiles, installations, and exhibitions are deeply rooted in spirituality. If you haven't discovered her work yet, I highly encourage you to visit www.winsomwinsom.com.
I was raised in Canada by both of my parents, alongside my brother and sister. My dad, Gordon Darrall, is an incredible teacher, writer, puppet maker, and community builder, both parents have always inspired me through their creativity and humanitarism.
In 2006, I became a certified yoga teacher. Nearly 20 years later, I feel incredibly grateful that I've been able to make a living doing something I truly feel called to do. After completing my training in Hong Kong, I stayed for several years teaching private yoga classes throughout Hong Kong Island. It was a very special chapter of my life.
I also completed a Master's Degree in Buddhist Studies from HKU, while there. While I sometimes joke that I have a Master's in BS, the philosophies and teachings I studied have profoundly influenced my life. They continue to help me find balance, perspective, compassion, and a deeper sense of connection.
As we move through 2026, I'm feeling so much excitement and possibility. There are some beautiful vibrations in the air, and if you've been feeling called to shake things up, reconnect with yourself, or move toward a more aligned version of your life, I'd love for you to explore the retreat that Megan and I are offering in February 2027.
Thank you for taking the time to read all the way to the end. Personal sharing doesn't come naturally to me. As surprising as it may seem to those who know me through yoga, I'm actually a recovering shy person and a lifelong introvert. But I've learned that when we're doing what we're meant to do, something shifts. We become more ourselves. We shine a little brighter.
That's what I wish for each of you.
With gratitude and joy,
~ Tara
