Today the team from Abbotsford Sports & Orthopaedic Physiotherapy Clinic was proud to participate in the Run for Water! 💧

It was an amazing day supporting a cause that helps bring clean water and hope to communities around the world while also bringing our local community together through movement and connection.

We loved seeing so many familiar faces out on the course and cheering each other on throughout the morning. Thank you to the organizers, volunteers, and everyone who participated and donated to make the event such a success.

We’re grateful to be part of such a supportive and caring community here in Abbotsford!

Meet Brandon, our newest Registered Massage Therapist at Abbotsford Sports & Orthopaedic Physiotherapy Clinic!

A graduate of the Vancouver College of Massage Therapy, Brandon brings a strong background in personal training and martial arts instruction, along with a passion for helping people recover, move better, and feel their best.

Brandon uses a variety of hands-on techniques tailored to each patient’s goals and comfort level, including Swedish massage, myofascial release, trigger point therapy, stretching, and joint mobilizations. He enjoys working with a wide range of patients, including athletes, prenatal clients, older adults, and those recovering from injuries.

Outside the clinic, you’ll usually find him spending time with family, running, weight training, cooking, or chasing after his busy toddler.

Building on our recent foot work 👣 & why crawling matters!

This young athlete has foot pain and is a very fast runner, but does not always move with ease, especially when things slow down and require stability and control.

We often look at early movement history for kids and ask if they crawled on hands and knees. This can give us clues on how coordination and core control developed, as well as how well the hips learned to stabilise in early movement patterns.

Sometimes challenges that show up later—like balance difficulties or foot pain—can be influenced by how well that foundational stability and coordination has developed further up the chain.

Here we’re working on:
• Barefoot balance
• Coordination stepping over an uneven surface (pillow obstacle course = perfect at home!)
• Single leg stance with hips staying level
• Focusing on a still object to help with control

The goal isn’t speed—it’s control.

Slower movements challenge stability in a completely different way than fast, dynamic play.

If your child struggles more with standing still or slow, controlled movements, this is a great one to try at home! You should give it a try too!

Balance, control, and a whole lot of purpose.💪

This young athlete is working hard on a body ball to challenge their proprioception—our body’s ability to sense where it is in space. It’s also powerful rehab.

✨ Why does this matter?

After ankle sprains, proprioception can be impaired, increasing the risk of re-injury. Exercises like this help retrain those pathways so the body can react quickly and stay stable.

✨ Not just for kids…

Adults benefit from this kind of training too—especially after ankle sprains, with chronic instability, or for runners looking to improve control and prevent injury.

✨ Bonus benefits:

• Builds ankle strength and stability
• Engages core muscles for better control
• Strengthens hips to support proper movement patterns
• Improves overall balance and coordination

Strong feet matter at every age 👣✨

Picking up objects with the feet is a simple but effective exercise for both kids and adults to improve foot intrinsic muscle strength, coordination, and balance. In this activity, one foot works to grab and place objects in a bucket while the standing leg builds hip strength and stability at the same time.

Why we love it:
✔️ Improves toe dexterity and arch support
✔️ Strengthens small stabilizing muscles in the feet
✔️ Challenges single-leg balance
✔️ Builds hip and core control
✔️ Supports overall lower body stability for walking, running, and daily movement

Try it at home with different objects:
🧸 Small toys
🧦 Socks
🪵 Blocks
🎾 Pom poms or soft balls
🧩 Puzzle pieces
🪙 Large coins
🫘 Bean bags
👕 Face cloths or small towels

Tip: Start with larger, easier objects and progress to smaller items for more challenge. For adults, try performing it barefoot and adding a slight knee bend on the standing leg.

We are thrilled to introduce Lexi, our newest physiotherapist at Abby Physio!

Lexi has been part of our clinic family for years as a former kinesiology student and volunteer, and we are so excited to now welcome her officially as a registered physiotherapist. Raised in Abbotsford, she completed her Bachelor’s in Kinesiology at UFV before travelling to England to earn her Master of Science in Physiotherapy from Brunel University London in 2025.

Lexi treats orthopaedic injuries and is certified in pelvic floor physiotherapy. She uses a client-centred, movement-focused approach and loves helping patients feel empowered and involved in their rehab journey—whether in women’s health, sports rehab, or general orthopaedics.

Outside the clinic, Lexi enjoys cooking, hiking, travelling, and spending time outdoors with family and friends.
