For generations, the weight of new motherhood was distributed across many shoulders. Today, it often rests on just one.

The village has shrunk, but the human need for it has not. We are biologically wired for community, especially during life's biggest transitions.

This isn't about nostalgia for the past; it's about acknowledging a critical need in the present. Support for a new mother isn't a "nice-to-have"β€”it's a non-negotiable part of a healthy, thriving society.

We made a trade. We swapped the village for WiFi, the shared wisdom of elders for the endless scroll of Google at 3 a.m.

Of course our grandmothers had other challenges and less ammenities.

But the emphasis on community was greater. Our grandmothers had less data but more connection.

They had fewer "essentials" on their baby registry but a deeper well of community support to draw from.

The current maternal mental health crisis isn't a mystery. It's a predictable outcome of a society that has tried to replace the irreplaceable: human presence.

It's time to log off and show up.

It's time to reinvest in the original social network.
