This week, we’re excited to shine the spotlight on one of our incredible team members, Megan! 🦎

Megan inspires our team every day with her kindness, compassion, and genuine love for all living creatures. She is not only one of the most caring people you’ll meet, but she’s also a Certified Dog Groomer and Certified Veterinary Assistant! 🩷

Animals have always been at the heart of Megan’s life. At home, she shares her family with two lovebirds and two senior rescue dogs. She has a special passion for birds and is always eager to expand her knowledge of their care, behavior, and well-being. 🌻☀️🦜

When she’s not at the hospital, Megan enjoys creating art, photography, volunteering with special-needs animals, and spending time in nature. She believes every animal has a unique story to tell and is passionate about helping them live happy, healthy lives.

Why is hay so important for Rabbits? 🐰

Hay is essential because it:
-Supports healthy digestion
-Naturally wears down continuously growing teeth
-Provides important nutrients
-Encourages natural chewing, grazing, and foraging behaviors

Digestive and dental problems are common in rabbits, and a hay-rich diet helps prevent both!

Hay should make up ~80% of your rabbit’s diet! 🐰

A healthy rabbit diet consists of approximately 80% grass hay, 10% vegetables, 5% pellets, and occasional treats, with fresh water available at all times. 🌾🌱🌿

Grass hays such as timothy, orchard, or oat are great choices! Offering a variety of hays provides different textures and flavors, helps improve nutrition, and keeps rabbits interested in eating hay. Other ways to keep a bunny’s mind stimulated can include rabbit foraging mats and other rabbit safe toys or puzzles! 🧩

Good nutrition helps your bunny grow strong, stay healthy, and thrive. 💚

Roads and sidewalks absorb and retain heat from the sun,
often becoming much hotter than the ambient air temperature. ☀️🌳🐕

Remember: if it’s too hot for your hand, it’s too hot for your pet’s paws.🐾☀️

To help keep your pets safe, schedule walks during the early morning or later in the evening, when the sun is lower and pavement temperatures have had a chance to cool down. 😎

Burns on a pet’s paw pads from hot pavement can include these common signs:
-Limping or reluctance to walk
-Blisters on the pads
-Peeling, cracking, or flaking skin
-Raw, shiny, or ulcerated areas where the outer layer of the pad has come off
-Swelling of the paws or toes

Happy Townline Tuesday! 🐾☀️

This week, we’re excited to introduce one of the newest members of the Townline Vet Hospital team, meet Coralie! 🪸🐚🦎

Coralie is a veterinary assistant with many years of experience in the field and a strong passion for animal care. Beyond her work at the hospital, she is a dedicated volunteer currently supporting Critter Care Wildlife Society and Hearts on Noses. 💙

Coralie has also shared her life with some very special companions, including her two 20-year-old reptiles: Skittles the python (featured in photo 3!) and Sq**rt the skink. 🐍💚

She studied biology at the francophone campus of the University of Alberta and brings both knowledge and enthusiasm to everything she does.

When she’s not working or volunteering, you’ll likely find Coralie out exploring nature on a kayak. 🛶

Her passion for the natural world and her commitment to helping others inspire our team every day, and we’re so grateful to officially welcome Coralie to the Townline Vet team! 💚
