September can feel like a fresh start, but it can also come with a lot of pressure.

For university and college students, returning to school can mean adjusting to new routines, heavier workloads, finances, relationships, living away from home, and the pressure to figure out what comes next. And if you’re already feeling burned out, that transition can feel even harder.
Remember that you don’t have to have everything figured out right away. Give yourself permission to adjust, take things one week at a time, and pay attention to what you need along the way. 💛

What is one thing that helps, or helped, you transition back to school?

I’m currently accepting new clients for in-person sessions!

If you’re already doing the work in couples therapy, you might also benefit from having a space that’s just for you.

Individual therapy can offer a different kind of space to explore your own experiences, emotions and patterns, including things that may be difficult to unpack in a couples session.

Past hurt, loss, attachment wounds, anger, burnout, or ongoing sadness can all affect how we show up in our closest relationships.

You don’t have to choose between working on your relationship and working on yourself. Sometimes, the two go hand in hand.

If this feels familiar, individual therapy may be a helpful place to start.

One of the books that beautifully explores the fawn trauma response is Fawning: Why the Need to Please Makes Us Lose Ourselves—and How to Find Our Way Back by Ingrid Clayton, PhD.

People-pleasing isn't always a personality trait. For some, it's a survival response that developed in environments where keeping others happy felt like the safest option.

Recognizing these patterns isn't about blame or judgment. It's about understanding why they developed and approaching yourself with curiosity instead of criticism.

You can care deeply about others without losing sight of yourself.

When I feel overwhelmed, my instinct is usually to try harder.
To push through. To do more.To keep going.

But sometimes what we need isn't more effort, it’s more compassion.

Aundi Kolber's idea of "trying softer" reminds us that we can't shame ourselves into healing. Growth happens when we meet ourselves with kindness, curiosity, and care.

Sometimes slowing down is the thing that helps us move forward.

People often overlook the importance of our day-to-day space. We spend a majority of our time in our homes, and it’s important that we focus on creating a space that allows us to feel calm, safe and regulated after a long day. 🏠❤️

The way we show up as therapists matters just as much as the techniques we use.

Our professional values shape every session, every conversation, and every relationship we build with clients. They guide how we listen, how we support, and how we create a space where people feel safe enough to be themselves.

Perfectionism isn't just about having high standards.

It can look like fear of making mistakes, procrastination, harsh self-criticism, or feeling like your worth depends on getting everything right.
Over time, that pressure can contribute to burnout.

Burnout often isn't from doing too little, it's from never feeling like you've done enough. There is a difference between striving for excellence and demanding perfection.

Excellence allows room for growth.
Perfectionism rarely does.
What if "good enough" was enough?

A hard moment does not have to define your entire day. 🌿

Sometimes resilience looks like noticing what you’re carrying, giving yourself space to feel it, and then intentionally choosing something that brings even a small moment of relief, grounding, or joy.
One of my favourite ways to shift my mood is listening to music. 🎶

Joy does not have to be big to matter.
What does a joyful moment look like for you lately?

We need to talk about men’s mental health.

For so many men, the message has been:“push through”“don’t complain”“handle it yourself”
But carrying everything alone comes with a cost.

You don’t have to wait until things feel impossible to reach out. Support isn’t a sign of weakness, it’s a way of taking care of yourself and the people who matter to you.
