Some office chit chat that turned into something more. A conversation that started casually became so interesting that we started taking notes so we could share the reflection that came from it:
Ever have one of those moments where something you’ve heard your whole life suddenly lands differently?
Being involved in Birth has a way of doing that.
It keeps bringing us back to our Creation teachings. Not because it’s changed, but because each time we return to it, we hear something we couldn’t hear before.
Lately, we’ve been revisiting Sky Woman’s journey.
We’ve always heard the story told as though she fell from the Sky World.
But did she fall? Or did she descend?
Because those are two very different things.
A fall suggests an accident. Something going wrong. Failure, even.
A descent suggests trust. A willingness to leave what is familiar and enter the unknown because something new is waiting to be born.
Isn’t that what birth asks of every one of us?
To trust the unknown is to let go of old versions of ourselves before we can become who we are meant to be.
Every birth begins with a descent.
A baby descends before taking its first breath.
A seed descends into darkness before it becomes a tree.
Roots reach down before branches reach toward the sky.
Yet we have become so attached to direction, as though up means growth and down means failure.
But does Creation actually teach us that?
As above, so below.
Sky and Earth are not opposites. There is no hierarchy of direction. They are in relationship.
Transformation begins with surrender.
Before expansion comes descent.
Before becoming comes letting go.
Perhaps we have misunderstood transcendence. And maybe it is not about escaping the body or rising above the human experience.
Maybe it is about becoming so fully embodied that we remember we were never separate from the greater Body of Creation.
The sky has a body.
The Earth has a body.
The waters have a body.
And our bodies have always been in relationship with them.
Descent is not the opposite of transcendence.
But maybe it is the path to it.
Maybe Sky Woman descended deeper into embodiment. Into Creation.
That thought changed something for us.
To trust the unknown is to release the versions of ourselves we have outgrown, so we can become who we were always meant to be.
You descend to expand.
