🇵🇭 Mabuhay! Today, we celebrate Philippine Independence Day. 🇵🇭
For many of us, home is no longer where we were born.
But our traditions still matter. Our faith still matters. Our families still matter.
One of the beautiful things about the Filipino community is our ability to build wherever life takes us — to create places where our stories, values, and traditions can continue for generations.
Jasmine Plaza is one of those places.
Through the partnership of Heritage Gardens, Alternatives Funeral & Cremation Services, and Alternatives Life Planners, a vision became reality: a place where families can gather, remember, and honour their loved ones.
A place where our traditions continue, even thousands of miles from where they began.
Today, as we celebrate Philippine Independence Day, we also celebrate the people, partnerships, and community spirit that made Jasmine Plaza possible.

Before there was a Jasmine Plaza.
Before there was a Rose Plaza.
Before there was even an Alternatives Life Planners.
There was a funeral home owner willing to take a chance on an idea.
Tyrel Burton said yes.
Yes to Filipino families having packages that reflected our culture.
Yes to serving families in their own language.
Yes to names like Sampaguita, Cattleya, Bougainvillea, and Birds of Paradise.
But perhaps the most important thing he said yes to was this:
He didn't bring us in as staff.
He chose us as partners.
He trusted our community to lead.
Because of that trust, thousands of Filipino families in British Columbia have been able to plan ahead in a way that feels familiar, meaningful, and their own.
Somewhere along the way, Tyrel stopped being just a business partner.
He became family.

Year after year, what began as a place of remembrance became a place of gathering.

Jasmine is almost full. 🌹🤍
For 5 years, she has held our families.

Same June tradition. Same families gathering. Same promise to the next generation.
Just a new chapter in the story.

There is more than one letter buried at Jasmine Plaza. 💌
On June 17, 2023, families gathered to do something extraordinary.
Each family wrote a letter.
Not to us.
Not to Canada.
But to their own descendants — the children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren who would come after them.
They sealed those letters inside a time capsule together with family photographs, so future generations would know exactly what they looked like on the day they made that promise.
A newspaper from 2023 was placed inside too, capturing a moment in time.
The capsule will be opened on June 17, 2048.
Twenty-five years later.
Some of the children who stood around that capsule were only 9 or 10 years old.
By the time it is opened, many will have children of their own.
And one day, those children will read letters their lolos and lolas wrote... to them.
This is what Jasmine Plaza was built for.
Not just a place to rest.
A place where families can speak to each other across generations.

November 1.
The cemetery full of life. Families praying. Eating. Laughing. Children running everywhere while stories were shared beside the people we loved.
Because for us, remembering was never only about grief.
It was about family.
When we launched Jasmine Plaza in 2022, we started something special — our November 1 in Canada.
Every June since then, families have gathered to remember together.
To pray. To share a meal.
To tell stories. To celebrate the people who are still part of us.

Today we celebrate someone who reminds us that purpose does not retire.
At 67, Maria continues to lead, mentor, train, and inspire the next generation of Life Planning Advisors — often opening not just her office, but her home and her heart to the team she believes in.
This past month alone, 55 Advisors trained together as we prepared for a whole new decade of serving families.
Thank you, Maria, for reminding us that leadership is not about age. It is about purpose, courage, and believing in people before they believe in themselves.
