🩹 June is Wound Healing Awareness Month
A wound is any damage to the skin, including cuts, scrapes, blisters, burns, surgical incisions, or ulcers. Even small wounds on the feet can become a concern when healing slows down.
Several factors can affect healing, including diabetes, poor circulation, swelling, infection, pressure from footwear, smoking, certain medications, and reduced sensation in the feet.
To support healing:
✔️ Keep wounds clean and protected
✔️ Monitor the area daily
✔️ Avoid excessive pressure on the affected area
✔️ Wear properly fitting footwear
Watch for:
⚠️ Increasing redness, swelling, warmth, or pain
⚠️ Drainage, pus, or foul odour
⚠️ Discolouration of the surrounding skin
⚠️ A wound that is not improving
If you have diabetes, poor circulation, or neuropathy, any foot wound should be assessed promptly.
Early attention can help prevent complications and support proper healing.
