Last day to contribute to the NowWhat Team raising funds and awareness for CAMH through the Sunrise Challenge - congratulations to our team on hitting our 2026 fundraising goal, and thank you for sharing your reasons with us. Day 5's reflection comes from Therapeutic Coach & DBT Facilitator, Nigel :

"Mental health isn’t just about getting through hard moments. It’s also about building routines that help us feel grounded before those moments happen. For me, that’s movement, fresh air, reflection, and intentionally slowing down in the morning. Those practices help me take care of myself so I can be more present for others." - Nigel

Day 4 of rising with the sun for mental health as we fundraise for CAMH is courtesy of Dave, our Staff Support Manager:

"I have the privilege of watching my son greet the day each morning with excitement and anticipation of what might be. There are books to read, snacks to munch on, people to say hi to at the grocery store, stickers to stick, songs to giggle to, firetrucks to listen for, bikes to ride, grandmas and grandpas to call, friends to meet in the sandbox, and a million other little blessings that brighten his day and give me perspective. Starting my day with hope for what adventures lay ahead puts me in a better headspace for myself and those I support." - Dave

Day 3 of Rising with the sun to raise funds and awareness for mental health via CAMH is brought to you by Certified Teacher and Therapeutic Coach Hilary:

"Because I support people with their executive functioning (EF) skills, I also make a point to practice and strengthen my own. In the mornings, I like to activate my brain with puzzles, such as jigsaws or Connections. These activities help engage my working memory and prepare me for the day ahead. They also allow me to better relate to my clients and support them in developing strategies to activate and strengthen their own EF skills." - Hilary

Day 2 of rising with the sun for mental health as we fundraise for CAMH (better late than never ...) - today's post is courtesy of Therapeutic Coach Sam:

"I’ve been making an effort to remind myself that my mornings don’t need to feel rushed, so I’ve been intentional about giving myself five minutes to sit on my balcony, watch the birds and the sunrise, drink my coffee, and avoid thinking about everything that needs to be done or all the things I need to accomplish. I’ve also been trying to start my day by thinking of 3 things I’m grateful for and 1 thing I’m looking forward to, whether it’s listening to my favourite song in the car, going to Pilates after work, or spending time with my dog." - Sam

Here are the promised cute puppy pics of our alternative day program, PowerUp+'s visit to the SPCA last week. The volunteers prepared a dynamic visit for us, and the kids (and staff) had an amazing time!

Our visit included:

🐾 A presentation about the SPCA, including how they help animals and their upcoming expansion to a new building because they have outgrown their current home

🐾 Helping to prepare lunch for the dogs, by filling their Kongs with kibble

🐾 The SPCA staff were also so appreciative of the abundance of donations our awesome clients and staff collected, including treats, toys, and peanut butter!

What a day. 💛

Sarah Milmine (RSW) and Rina Rodak (Neurodivergence Specialist) presented "Minds of All Kinds: Neurodivergence, IPV & Supporting Survivors in Systems" at today - for Family Court Support Workers across Ontario.

Days ago, the Supreme Court of Canada created a new tort for intimate partner violence - recognizing "coercive control" as legally actionable. The legal landscape is shifting. Our understanding of who moves through these systems must shift too.

Women with disabilities experience IPV at 2–3x the rate of women without disabilities. Neurodivergence is present at meaningful rates across families in family court — in parents, in children, in the family systems themselves. Most court professionals haven't been trained to recognize it.

That's the gap.

A neuroaffirming lens is not a clinical nicety. It is a safety intervention.

Now What? is committed to being at the forefront — educating, training, and developing practices that affirm neurodivergent families who are navigating these systems.

If you're a lawyer, clinician, FCSW, advocate, or educator working in the seams of IPV and neurodivergence - we want to hear from you. Reach out.

Huge gratitude to . 💛
