In light of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation at the end of this month, we are proud to share another "Bright Lights" moment in our home published by AdvantAge Ontario speaking to a recent Indigenous blessing of the G Tackaberry and Family Home:
🧡"On August 10, the G. Tackaberry and Family Long-Term Care Home had the honour of hosting a traditional Smudging Ceremony led by Melissa Graber, Anishinabe Ikwe – Tibik Kizis. The ceremony provided an opportunity to recognize and honour the importance of Indigenous culture, teachings, traditions, and connection to the land.
Using sacred medicines, the ceremony offered a meaningful opportunity for healing, protection, reflection, and the sharing of positive energy among those who attended, as well as for all who will enter and call this home in the future.
As a lasting acknowledgment of this meaningful occasion, a plaque commemorating the Smudging Ceremony will be unveiled at a later date and placed inside the home. The plaque will serve as a reminder of the ceremony, the teachings shared, and the ongoing commitment to recognizing and respecting Indigenous culture and traditions.
They extend their sincere gratitude and respect to Melissa for sharing her teachings and traditions and for helping to create a meaningful beginning for the new home.
They also wanted to respectfully recognize that their home stands on the traditional lands of the Algonquin-Anishinabek, Huron-Wendat, Haudenosaunee (Iroquois), Oneida, and Haudenosaunee (St. Lawrence Iroquois) peoples. They honoured their longstanding stewardship of this land and acknowledge the strength, vitality, and enduring presence of these communities today.
