Addiction Services Central Ontario was pleased to attend the Swearing-in-Ceremony for York Regional Police Deputy Chief Ahmad Salhia on July 27th.

There was a large representation not just from York Regional Police but also from the community, demonstrating the positive impact that Deputy Chief Salhia has had in forging many different relationships.

Representing ASCO was Jojit Labuntog, Chair of the Board of Directors, Lindsay Liu, Treasurer of the Board of Directors and Penny Marrett, Executive Director. Also in attendance was former Chair of the Board, Brian Bigras, who to this day remains on the agency’s Governance & Nominating Committee, as a volunteer from the community.

Deputy Chief Ahmad Salhia is currently Vice-Chair of the ASCO Board of Directors, and his leadership, commitment and support of the organization is appreciated.

We look forward to Deputy Chief Salhia’s continuing involvement on the ASCO Board as we unite to support individuals in achieving their goals by offering hope and promoting well-being.

June is National Indigenous History Month in Canada — a time to learn about and honour the unique cultures, traditions, histories and experiences of First Nations, Inuit and Métis Peoples, who have lived on this land since time immemorial and whose presence continues to shape Canada today.

It is also an important opportunity to reflect on the ongoing impacts of colonization and consider how each of us can contribute to reconciliation in meaningful ways.

This month, we encourage everyone to take time to listen, learn and engage. Read books by Indigenous authors, attend community events, watch films and performances, listen to music by Indigenous artists, and follow First Nations, Inuit and Métis creators and educators. Learn more: bit.ly/4vW7hn5

Learning is an important step toward understanding, respect and reconciliation and, Addiction Services Central Ontario is committed to continuing to doing its part.

This , Canadians are invited to Come Together—because connection strengthens mental health. When we show up for one another through small, everyday actions, we help reduce isolation, strengthen belonging, and support overall well‑being.

Social connection plays a powerful role, too. At Addiction Services Central Ontario, our programs and services are built on compassion, trust, and meaningful human connection. Every day, our clinicians support individuals and families navigating addictions challenges—reminding them they are not alone and that help is available.

This week, let’s talk openly, reach out, and support one another. Whether it’s mental health, addiction, or both, care starts with connection—and together, we can make a difference. 💚
